I'm looking to buy an external hard drive to use with my Dell laptop. My hard drive is pretty full with emm "stuff" and I'd like to move some of it onto an external drive so that I can get more "stuff"

Any recommendations of shops or makes? What kind of price should I be looking for? I guess a 100-150GB one should be fine...

apologies if this is an obvious/dumb question

You could get a higher capacity HDD (200GB is ~€100 on komplett) and then get the casing (from komplett) too - works out cheaper.
