Has to be a catch like sign up for 25 years on the dearest tariff or something like that!

3G costs mad money to run in ireland (last time i checked it costs about Euros 2.50 per megabyte - depending on the tarrif you subscribe to - apparently same rate as slow gprs).

They need more folk on the network to make it take off - hence the offers.
The Nokia 3G phones are supposed to be good - and the first gen 3g motorollas that are going cheap are supposed to be complete junk.

From the RTE website this morning:

Nokia expected to report sales slow-down

    January 27, 2005 08:54
Results from the world's biggest mobile phone maker, Nokia, later today are expected to signal a slow-down in global sales.

Nokia's share price has dropped in recent weeks in expectation that it will forecast just single digit growth in the mobile phone market during 2005.

Other phone makers such as Motorola and Ericcsons have already reported a sluggish start to 2005 after solid Christmas sales. This could result in cheaper handsets as the year progresses.

Its only the motorolas that are €29 im afraid. Still expensive for the sony or the nokia.

Also have to go on one of their heavy supertime tariffs.

3G packet data services are the exact same price as GPRS. 3G circuit switched calls are the exact same price as 2G circuit switched calls... 3G text messages are the exact same price as 2G text messages ;)

The Nokia handset is definetly the best of the pack at the moment. The Sony Ericsson is a decent handset but I dislike the SE UI.. The Motorola is quite good for the price, grandted its not perfect but for 29 euro you could do alot worse. Also, it is not first gen Motorla 3G handset either. It may actually be a 3rd gen..

Any of the high end phones you buy for about E30 on contract you'll find rental is about E40 per month with a minimum contract of 12 months..

You're not really saving money unless your company is paying your phone bill already or something :D

    Obviously
3G packet data services are the exact same price as GPRS.
But at a speed of 380bits per second.....
@2.5 Euros per Meg and a possible 2783 K per min (150Mbytes per hour) (if you can get a 3g signal - but thats another story)
I wouldnt want to be synchronising exchange over it.
The quickest way to run up a megabill would by to use it on the road a laptop??

so to use 3G as it was intended, downloading stuff (eg. News/Movie Clip) - a 15 minute download session would cost
    15 * 2783 * 2.5 = 104 Euros... or thereabouts

    Please tell me I'm wrong.

I'm sure you can bulk buy megs - but 100 Euros for a 15minute phone call???

What are the odds we are the most expensive in Europe/World again.
Also, it is not first gen Motorla 3G handset either. It may actually be a 3rd gen..
First Gen phones of socalled 'Third Gen' Phone system.
Told These Motorollas crash very often. One I tried didnt crash but menus were terrible (photo quality was better than nokia though).
