    Guys,

I have moved house and have brought the sky satellite with me (i had done the 12 month contract).

The house has tv point in various rooms that come together in the attic. What suggestions would you give for setting up the satellite dish, do I have to run the cable along the outside wall to the sitting room and bore a hole through or is there any other method you'd suggest.
I plan to use a regular aerial to pick up rte1,2,tv3 etc as I have cancelled sky but would like to pick up the fta channels that I can get on the satellite (bbc etc)...

    Any suggestions ?

If the cable from the attic to the living room is of good quality there is a gizmo that you can get to allow satellite and terrestrial signals to share the one cable. If you don't want to go running wires outside then that might suit you. Tony has referred to this gizmo a few times so he should be able to provide more details.

Its called a diplexer and basically allows you to put satellite and uhf/vhf down the same cable, you also needa wallplate at the tv end to separate out the cables

    Hope this helps

    Tony,

Would I need two diplexer's ? one in the attic and one at the tv socket ?

And do you sell them ? or know of anywhere to get them, i tried B&Q but had no luck..

Ive seen multi switches advertised where you input an lnb and antenna signal and get 4 output signals which have to be seperated again with a diplexer to get your aerial and satellite signal at your reciever. Is this the same as you mentioned above, and if so could i use this method above in place of a quad lnb. Thanks.

    Multiswitches require quattro LNBs.

"Five or more Sky digital receivers
The dish set up is similar, but rather than use a Twin / Twin LNB a Quattro LNB needs to be used. The Quattro LNB's have 4 outputs but each output only receives one part of the 4 wavebands broadcast: High band V, High band H, Low band V, Low band H. Each individual part is carried along the 4 satellite cables and inserted into a multiswitch box, the inputs on the box are marked: High V, High H, Low V, Low H. The multiswitch box which has many outputs is designed to combine the 4 signal parts and allow the full signal to be sent to any number of satellite receivers. The Multiswitch boxes are sold with 5 inputs to allow for the insertion of a terrestrial TV signal if required. Once the signals have been combined in the Multiswitch box, only one CT100 cable is required from the Multiswitch box down to the Satellite receiver, this lead can carry the Satellite signals and the Terrestrial TV plus FM or DAB radio signals if required. A surface plate will need to be fitted at the main TV point to separate the Satellite / TV / FM or DAB signals in order that the appropriate appliances can be plugged in. See Triplex surface plate."

Thanks Zaphod, that seems to be a good site for the basics, which is what i need. The max number of outputs i'd be looking for is four and with that in mind maybe the simplest thing for me would be to replace my lidl dish with a sky mini dish and get a 4 output lnb to go with it.

I'd keep the Lidl dish as it has better performance than the minidish and then buy a quad LNB (i.e. 4 x universal outputs) for it.

    Thanks Guys,
The main reason i was going to change the dish was because i thought the lidl dish wouldn't be strong enough to hold a quad lnb. But i'll take my chances and go with your advice
