DSL to upstairs phone socket?

Have moved apartment and am in the process of having my DSL connection moved to the phone line here. My PC is in an upstairs bedroom with a working phone socket installed - any problems using the micro-filter here rather than at the 'main' phone socket downstairs? Will they be able to use the phone downstairs while I'm connected upstairs? Thanks :)

Yeah no problems at all, but you may want to make sure the cabling is decent (not the €3 power city crap)

Sorry for butting in butI hope to do this as well.

How's this done? Do you need some kind of splitter? Also what's this "micro-filter"?

The filter is a device that prevents telephones from interfering with the DSL signal. It is placed between the telephone and the extension socket. You need one for every socket with a telephone/fax etc. attached.

    Here is a picture.

You can also get ones that allow a telephone and a DSL modem on a single socket.

What kind of cabling do you recommend and where can you get a suitable phone extension kit?

Mininum Cat 3 cable. Most electricians will just use alarm wire, which is fine for telephone but not for DSL.

If the upstairs point is not suitable and downstairs is fine why not go for a wireless dsl router ?
