Are Thomann Trustworthy?

I emailed them a while back, asking them about their Ibanez 1570's and whether they had the Prestige neck on them.
    >I'm just wondering whether the RG1570 you have in stock is the 2004 model with the prestige neck?

    Yes

Now, that's cool and everything. Here's the 1570 Link

OH, but hang on. Ibanez don't make black 1570 Prestiges, only mirage red and mirage blue ( Red and Blue )

Now, you have to wonder what the deal is with them. Perhaps they just got confused, which is fair enough but there's €200 in the difference and considering they're about to be or are in a court case (which obviously I can't and won't talk about), you really have to wonder what sort of place they're running.

Ah, I'm just ranting cos now I'll have to order my new guitar from Ishibashi or Music123, neither of which I'm looking forward to doing.

Da Bash kicks ass, don't besmerch the name of my man Koichi or you'll be entering a world of pain... a world of pain.

You'll have your order from Ishibashi within a week and it'll probably be CIJ too.

Thomann are a trust site, ive ordered a wah pedal a few months ago , and just 2 weeks ago i got my Jackson RR, the only issue was that I had to send them a photocopy of the credit card with a statement attached as the price of the order was so high, somer sort of fraud protection i figure

I had to send them a photocopy of the credit card with a statement attached

If you contacted your credit card provider they would tell you to never, never, ever do that. That's as dodgy a practice as I can think of.

Another reason why I wonder who Thomann. They have no credit card checking facility? That's just BS imo.

Is only after a certain amount that they require to you send a photocopy of a statement and your card?

And feylya, i know you don't wish to talk about your court case with thomann, and i shalln't pry, but just wondering why you're dealing with them again if they messed you about?

That black one on the link clearly says Prestige above the Ibanez name

I did indeed, forgot to reply, my apologies.

Yup, that's the one alright. I can heartily endorse that instrument. How are you getting on with your one? Ready to sell it to me yet? ;)

The first time I dealt with them I wasn't impressed. I sent an email asking when a fender strat I was looking at would be in stock. 2 weeks later I got the reply, which isn't really good PR.
Although I bought a new amp off them monday of last week, it was shipped the same day and arrived yesterday. Thats good going if you ask me!

Ibanez do make a RG1570 Prestige in black, check out their jap web site. It looks like the only reson for the €200 price difference is that the second two come with cases.

Friend of mine ordered a Marshall JCM 200 TSL. Fabulous piece of work I have to say and they have been most helpful with every query. If you were to get worried about 1 case that a company is currently under going you wouldn't buy anything from anyone.

    I recommend them to all.

Yeah i ordered a mike off them, it was sent out the following weekend, on the third week i rang up and asked them why i hadn't gotten it. The guy on the phone said "you should have gotten it by now". Well at least they know hot to state the obvious. So he told me to check the post office. Seeing as the post office always leaves a note when you weren't there at time of delivery i saw this as pointless, but did it anyway. I rang them again, he said oh yeah, it was lost in the post, we're sending out a new one. Ok sound enough they sent another one free of charge, but it was their fault. So i got it 5 weeks after the date of order. Form your own opinion, i suppose there are positive elements, in that but mostly got damn negative. Were they ever going to inform me as to why it was delayed. Fec' artists.

Never! You'd have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.... with a chisel.

I take it you didn't try getting another one then? :D

It's not my court case tbh. It's a large European suppliers vs them. They basically imported stuff from America and are reselling it. Bold bastards :p

The reason I'm thinking of dealing with them again is the price. €620 for the "Prestige" 5170 :o

Good for Thomann. We should be supporting them in that case.

    No we shouldn't...

    Careful now!

Why shouldn't we support them? Companies like fender ban sale of goods into Europe to keep prices artificially high via their distributers, so if thomann are sneaking around this type of restriction to give us better prices then more power to them. Give us more details!

(perpahs I'm missing some sarcasm in your posts, if try not to make me look too stupid!)

    Nice one !
I was going to say the same thing (only not as coherently) except I WAS too afraid to look stupid.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

I can't give any more details cos eh...I don't know any more.

TBH, if you buy from them, you have no support. If the guitar is borked, you have to send it back and hope they send a replacement. That'd be about a month. No dealer would touch the guitar because they'd loose their license.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭rob1891

I guess the warrenty is an issue. What are their chances of winning in court, could be good times ahead if they do.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Not 100% sure they are going to court but either way, they've lost the right to any future rights to sell these certain guitars.

It's that credit card thing thats pissing me off the most tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

To be honest the only dealings I've had with Thomann went perfectly smoothly. They were great, and they didn't ask me for that credit card crap either. It'd be a bit hypocritical though of anyone around here to criticize Thomann for buying from the states in all fairness.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Well, the point to the whole thread is that Thomann aren't going through proper suppliers to get their stuff on at least one count, maybe more.

Ah, maybe I'm way off the mark with this whole thing but it's pissing me off, especially the credit card thing.

And I found out Music Productiv have stopped selling the amp I ordered so it doesn't look like I'll be getting it.

I just had Thomann ask me for a photocopy of my card (front/back) and the header of my credit card statement (€700 order). I told them to get lost, and castigated them for asking me to do such an insecure thing. I also told them I'd be taking my business elsewhere and letting people know about this practice.

I'll post the reply, if I get one.

i've ordered a couple of thing(cheap items) and i've always kept the order number, so when the time comes and i buy something of a high value(probably not too far now) then they'll have a history of me buyin stuff from them.. hopefully this'll work

It's just Germans and fraud prevention.....it's a pain.

Whenever you buy something in Germany with a credit card you have to show ID (with a picture and signature).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 230 ✭✭musician.ie

No reply to my complaint. They just lost a customer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,998 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

I've been waiting for my acoustic to arrive for 4 weeks now. Just emailed them there again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 230 ✭✭musician.ie

Went backwards and forwards with them, but they wouldn't back down. I understand their concern about security, but surely there's a better way than photocopying your card and faxing it to them?

    Plonkers

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

There is a better way. Order from someone else and send them a photocopy of a letter you've written, explaining how your Credit Card company warned you not to send a copy of your card under any circumstances and how you wish them the best of luck with their business but that you will be dealing with their competitors who do not look for photocopies in future.

Enough of those should make them sort their act out swiftly enough :)
