not sure exactly but when I was going inter-railing I found AIB to actually work out the cheapest for me.. so might be a good one to check out!

Cheapest I could find was http://www.acetravelinsurance.ie/

The policy I was looking at was much cheaper than AIB's but Id say they all differ. Worth a look though.

Have a look at this post.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=215279

Ace seemed the best value and the AIB policy is underwritten by ACE themselves which AIB sell with the usual extra added on for them.
The policy is the EXACT same.
Some of the GOLD credit cards give FREE travel insurance if you book the flights, ferries etc on the card.
Should be easy to do now that you only need to pay one 40 Euro Credit Card Government Levy.

    www.quoteline.ie

Depends if you want cheapest cover, or good cover. Never go with insurance from a travel agent

I got very cheap winter sports travel insurance via Ryanair. Came out cheaper than Ace.

    If you're a VHI member check http://www.vhi.ie/info/MainServlet?action=travelProductSelect

    Annual family insurance is €95

Can get annual travel insurance for whole family for €85 at

    http://www.open.ie/internet.asp

Covers multiple trips, no winter sports and allows business trips as long as not manual labour

Another site is www.getcover.com but never used them so no idea.

Just booked annual global travel insurance (excluding ski) for my family for €110 with Ace. Same policy through AIB as their broker is €126. We're BUPA, not VHI

Thanks a million folks for your tips - virtual +rep sent

Aye, that's what I've used for years. They started to look for additional fees though plus the cover wasn't great and the conditions became more restrictive

I know it's a bit late now but if you book Ace insurance through
    www.pigsback.com
you get 500 (worth a fiver) in points.
Cost is the same either way.

MBNA Credit Card are doing FREE travel insurance for a year for new customers. So sign up for a year and as you only pay one 40 Euro tax now, ditch the card after the year and take out a different card (with whatever Free offer is going at the time!).
No cost and you get a year's FREE travel insurance.

Yes it used to be free with any gold card. Be careful though - plenty of restrictions and cover usually not good

Got an annual policy for my partner and I (worldwide excluding usa) for €60.00 from www.justcover.ie
We have bupa essential plus which makes it cheaper. That was the cheapest I could find on the net.Without bupa or vhi it's €90.00
