Need more guidance...I know this one comes up on occasion, but things change...

I'm was leaning towards the Boss ME-50 for a while to be honest, but between one thing and another it's been put on the long finger. I've messed with one in town, it's made of metal, has an expression pedal, gets reasonable reviews and is fairly reliable and much cheaper on the net than in town.

But I know that there have other boxes released since I last researched this, but are they any good?

I think Boss just launched the GT8 at NAMM. It's like the GT6, but this one goes up to 11.

Yeah the GT6 or any of the older GT's are nicer than the ME-50 imo. Both are great but you have a lot more control over the effects with the GT's, that is if you don't mind pressing buttons going through menus and editing patches. If however you prefer to twist the nobs until you find the sound your looking for the ME-50 is probably the way to go. The Rodger Linn Adrennalinn is also great and might be worth checking out, but it depends what your going to use it for, you would really need a midi pedalboard if you were going to attempt to use it live.

    Thanks lads

you get what you pay for tbh.. i say if you haven't got the money now, then save.. it's worth it in the long run..

You could probably get the GT3 pedals on eBay for less than 200 euro if you keep an eye out.. they won't be as good as the GT6 but they are still well worth it!!

An Me-50 is not a live pedal. When you make effect pedal patches there is a second delay with no sound when you change the patches.

    that's a pretty big flaw!

are the Gt-3 and Gt-6's "live"?

tis a big flaw, i'm sure those models must be usable live, for the money you are spending, but if you are spending more than 200 on a ME-50 you'd think they'd be fit for the purpose too wouldn't ya? I mean it doesn't say "home use only" on it

  • i'd be really annoyed by that actually, would be ridiculously irritating when using it live if everytime you changed all you could hear would be silence for a few sconds!

I've had a GT3 since they came out here (6 or eight years?) and its been through hundreds of gigs and recording situations covering a horridly diverse range of sounds and its still in active service.

I reckon get the best boss multi you can afford, if there's a GT8 out it'll be worth the waiting and saving to get one. Alternatively any of the GT range would prove o be useful to you. They're all intuitive, loaded with class FX and built like the proverbial brick poo house.

When you get one you'll have to spend some major time with it to get your tones right.

anyone have any experience on the boss GT-6B??
    im thinkin of buyin one

buy a gt-6 simple as that i had 2 distortion a wha a flanger a phaser a delay/reverb a graphic eq a dynamic wah a chorus a digitech whammy and a tuner pedal and the gt-6 does all that in 1 pedal and makes a serious improvement on your tone and ease of changing from 1 effect to the other.... and i doesn't have a delay betwwen effects ... its pricy but its well worth it cos its the best pedal out there

I love the idea of being able to morph between different amp models and effects based on how hard the strings are hit.

There's a nice little vid of it's capabilities here:
