Transferring a Domain

I’m looking to transfer a domain name from Namesecure, which is due to expire in about two weeks, to GoDaddy. Does anyone have experience or advice on such a transfer? Downtime? Issues with transfer time? Murphy’s Law?

There should be no problem with downtime, when the transfer is complete Godaddy will have the name but the nameservers for that domain shouldn’t change.

Make sure that namesecure don’t have the domain locked “STATUS – LOCKED”
The status will show up in the whois. Contact namesecure to unlock the domain.

If it goes past the two weeks into the exp date you'll have to pay namesecure to renew it before the transfer will proceed.

I transferred a domain from one godaddy account to another recently, and worked just fine. It took longer than quoted number of days on godaddy, but it did sort itself out eventually.

Make sure to LOCK the domain when its completed, to cope with the recent ICANN rules changes.
