    laptop on jes.de

Am I missing something or is that not a really good deal for a laptop?

Has anyone ordered from jes before?
I noticed they use the much maligned GLS to deliver here but I'm thinking I could get this sent to my workplace ( a shop, open from 7am to 12pm ) where it could be safely recieved.
Would this help or are GLS crap at even getting the package that far?

    any comments on this appreciated

Well it depends on battery life and whether thats a mobile processor or not and the weight. Looks like a great deal on the surface tho

Ordered a Laptop from jes the other week, ordered on Thursday arrived and Wensday. The only thing was the OS was german and has a german keyboard layout.

i wouldnt see the german os being a big problem as you could just format and reinstall the normal version. what about the bios joe? was that also in german, that could make things sticky.

and ive just done a quick google on german keyboard layout and the main diff seems to be that y and z keys are swapped, and obviously that the keys are labeled in german, not the biggest problem in the world but it might be a prob if your re-selling.

    the pcmag article said
The system's VIA S3G Unichrome Pro graphics chip is about as plain as you can get, with poor performance on 3D-intensive games and applications.

but the jes claims to have a nVidia GeForce FX Go 5700 64MB

the review said there's an 80GB drive but the jes one lists a 40 GB

both machine model names seem the same

I got a german keyboard. Just change the keyboard settings to the uk layout on the computer and pop off the y an z buttons and switch them. I'm back to the good old qwerty set up now.

Insight.com are doing a good deal on an Acer Travelmate 4502Lci. 1100 including delivery. I ordered it on friday and it arrived on monday. Powerful mobile processor, plenty of hdd space and ram. Good battery life. I was looking at Jes but after realising the bios/os could be in german I decided to leave it. Also on the German keyboards all the symbols are different so it's very difficult to find symbols. Not good for me since I use a lot of them in programming. If you program you will find the german keyboard a big pain. Good luck anyway with whatever you decide to go for

I find GLS to be fine when I get something delivered to my place of work, as it is in a major business park and they can't make up excusses about not finding the place or that no one was home.
