Installing Plantronics DSP-300 Headset

    I'm having a hard time installing this headset on a Windows 2000 machine with the piece of **** software they include.

    I bought a DSP-300 Plantronics headset and am trying to install
    it on a Windows 2000 machine.

    I have the following installation files:

    * pers-drv_01_03.exe (the drivers; they just unpack to a directory)
    * PerSono_2_4_200.exe (the installation program)

    I've run pers-drv_01_03.exe and extracted the files to C:\pers-drv.

    I then run PerSono_2_4_200.exe. However, after the installation is finished,
    I get an "Error" dialog box, which reads:

    "Plug in the Plantronics USB device".

    I plug in the device; according to the manual, at this point I should
    see a "Add New Hardware" dialog box. However, all I get is an
    "Unplug or eject hardware" icon in the status bar, and an unknown
    USB device (with exclamation mark) appearing in my Device Manager
    dialog box.

    I've tried updating the driver for this device and pointing it at
    C:\pers-drv, but that doesn't work either.

    Please advise, thanks,

    P.
