Q3. How do you use apt-get behind a proxy?
export http_proxy=http://YOUR_PROXY:8080/

for ftp use ftp_proxy instead, for the rest the syntax is the same.
or:
export http_proxy=http://user:password@YOUR_PROXY:8080/
or (to get through a Microsoft ISA proxy server):
export http_proxy=http://domainname\\user:password@YOUR_PROXY:8080/
or alternatively, to use it each time you run apt-get, add the following to your /etc/apt/apt.conf file:

Acquire::http::Proxy "http://YOUR_PROXY:8080/";

Of course, the above is only necessary if it's a non-transparent proxy.

just a note that adding the Accquire statement to your apt config is much less relable than having it as an enviromental variable. better off just adding it to your bashrc file
