A degree course? Diploma? Cert? ECDL? What sort? :) Think a lil more detail would be helpful.

CompApp in DCU has an evening version of the course. Might be worth looking into if you're after a degree anyhow.

CompTIA A+ is probably the best starting point. There's a book written by Michael Meyers (nothing to do with austin powers or halloween) which is considered the best bet for passing the A+ course. Then you have the Network+ and Security+ which would be a good founding for starting your MCSE's, CCNA's or the such, depending on what direction you decide to go with.

DOn't waste your time on a degree, as it'll take you an age to complete part time, and you'll be hard pushed to get a decent IT job straight after it, whereas you could do the A+ & network+ in 6 months, and walk into a half decent support role, and then go for the rest of your certs while you're on the job. if you end up working for someone like HP they'll even sponser you for your MCSEs.

Don't think CAE is part time. Just evening and weekends. :) It is a 4 year course though. It really depends on what you want yourself. If you're eager to get right into the thick of things then a degree isn't the thing.

That said a lot of us are hoping for a shortage of qualified people in a year or 3 (due to much lower numbers in IT etc and the "statistics"). Though as we all know they've statistics for everything. Sure 50% of statistics are made up. :p

Hi, Im in a similar situation and I want to get back into IT support (servers, routers) I have the A+ and I was considering doing the network + and moving on from there maybe MSCE. So where/what college would you people recommend for evening courses 2 or 3 evenings per week would be ok. I am on the southside. Tnx :)

Graduate Diploma in information technology in dcu is probably your best bet for a decent course with a qualification... leave your MCSE, A+ etc. till you have that done.

If your getting into development make sure before you go into a course to buy a coding book and see if you like it. Coding is a marmite jobbie, love it or hate it!
