    Hullo,

Right, I've just installed half-life 2 and when it gets to the updating steam part, its gets to 27% and stops and shows this message.

    "Steam.exe(main exception):ERROR delete of steam.exe failed, Win32 Error 5"Access is Denied" "

I installed this copy when the game came out and then un-installed it until I got myself a new graphics card which I have now. Any ideas what the story is here??

    Cheers in Advance.

Sorry for posting this here but your such a very helpful bunch of people.

Log on using an administrator-enabled account. It seems the one your using is a limited user account.

    i know..it was odd..

but it just clicked as to why i might have had to that
i installed it under a different user...

but i still though since i was part of the administrator group i would have full control/..
    guess not.

Jaco you should still try and log in under the administrator user account,
it will definetly work then (touch wood).

    Thanks
Right, I'm using XP Home and I have a Computer Administrator account. Do I need to access the Adminstrator account by running it in safe mode and doing all that other stuff??

Had the same problem as yourself couple of weeks back, was working fine until the steam update in early Jan, then it would'nt get passed 27% when updating.

i had tried all sorts of stuff and nothing worked, even deleting the client.blob file and all that stuff
just incase logging in as admin does'nt work you could try this.

go into control panel and go to add/remove programs and remove Steam, you can leave HL2 in there, just get rid uf steam, then go into the steampowered.com website and download/install it again, worked fine for me :)

Still nothing working. Would there be any files left over from when I last installed it about 8 weeks ago that would bugger up this installation?

    Cheers guys,

Finally got it working. I went into the steam folder and executed the steam application and while that was happening I executed the steamtmp application. Bastard of a game to install though. Having a few probs with stuttering in the game. Any clues?

    Thanks again
