Superquinn have a DVD player that they are advertising as fully compatible with DVD-R and DVD+R disks for the sum of 39.99

For a player that doesn't discriminate between disks I think this is a bargain?

I don't suppose this plays divx or xvid? Did you notice?

Whilst we are on the subject Dunnes has a DVD recorder that does -R/-RW with Progressive Scan, and component out for e199.

    Might even play Divx's too.

For 39 squid- I seriously doubt it.
If its not too choosy about the writable media it plays though- then its certainly a bargain. The only other DVD player that I have come across that is happy to play all writable disks is the Ronin- which looks seriously chunky, this one is a nice sleek little machine.

The make and model is a Digix dv228B. Not sure if there are hacks available to make multiregional.

funnily enough, i was in superquinn just previous to chrismas and they well selling a dvd player with some speakers which was about 90 euro and it definetly played divx. At the time, there was also a dvd player on its own for 40 euro. It appeared to be the dvd player from the speakers deal but obviously without the speakers. So, although I'm not 100% I think this unit may play at least divx or xvid.

    It did not state divx

Still the cheapest DVD player I've ever seen retail :)
