That is pretty dirt cheap for silverbacks.

    Thanks Dr. Nick!

/edit: Just saw the shipping costs. 5.95 regardless of order size. Pity if you only wanted 25 disks

postage and packing is 5.95 for a splindle of 25 dvd's, seems quite steep to me
althought even with that included you still get 25 8x discs for just under 20 quid, this site was reccomended to me on boards a few months ago to

www.svp.co.uk cheap but shipping is €15.50 so only useful if getting a good few

5.95 isn't steep for shipping really as a spindle requires some packing and the weight brings up the price. Be realistic....

I bet www.svp.co.uk would have been cheaper.

svp just charged me over 15 euro for shipping thats a ripoff thats for 50 disk and 50 cases the disks are very cheap but you get killed by the shipping costs i think ill stick to mediawrite depends on how long it takes to get this order anyone know how long it takes them to ship an order bet i wont have it till next week

    43.46 euro from mediawrite

    45.32 euro from svp

    for the same order

so mediawrite wins hands down for me cos you will get your order quicker than if its comming from uk and it works out cheaper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,386 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

What are the discs you are looking at? That seems very expensive for SVP dvds. are you comparing exactly like for like?
SVP use a 2 day courier service which is why it is expensive

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,275 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

On the other hand, svp is excellent if you are buying bulk. I just got 500 DVD's (for work), and a 600+ disc metal carry case, plus a few other cases. The box was hugh and it weighed over 13kg. Yet the delivery charge was still only €15 and it arrived promptly in just two days.

The whole thing worked out far cheaper then mediawrite. I suppose if you could organise to purchase with friends, etc. in bulk, then it would work out much better value.

Only if you are ordering a small amount, 75-100 disks or above svp are cheaper. For a large bulk order the much lower product prices add up to a big saving.

my order cost me 3 euro more on svp to for the order to be any cheaper you would have to order 150+ disks and then u would only save a few euros not really worth changing from an irish supplier to an english one is it ?

Thanks, I missed it completely, I thought shipping was free. Heres the new prices which show what I thought, cheaper for 100 or more with SVP

    MEDIAWRITE
    2 Tubs x Datawrite Grey (8x) DVD-R 50 Disks
    TOTAL 32.57

    3 Tubs x Datawrite Grey (8x) DVD-R 75 Disks

Previous post shows a saving of about €5 for 100 disks. They are the same delivery time, yet I presume SVP are paying more for the courier than mediawrite, this means to me that mediawrite are not competitive. I won't say they are ripping anybody off because they are cheap, but I won't pay over the odds for goods simply because it is an irish company.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,036 ✭✭✭garred

I agree with rubadub why should I pay more to an Irish company...and I think it was touched on earlier why not club together for the shipping from the likes of bigpockets, svp. I know I would'nt mind going halfs or less with somenone on an order to cut down on the shipping.

Still havent received any shipping details from mediawrite having ordered on Sunday. This is a bit of a let down :/ Im guessing it could have something to do with the shambles going on with the postal strike at the moment? I hear its specifically targetting SDS services and im under the impression that this is the system that mediawrite uses to send packages?

Mediawrite has a slightly better selection of Higher Quality media than does SVP.

This isn't a problem for most but my LG (4610b) is very fussy (but I does unbeatable quality burns once fed the right stuff).

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 23,275 Mod ✭✭✭✭bk

SVP scales much better the more discs you buy.

The following are the prices for the same discs (Datawrite Titanium Grey (8x) DVD-R) including postage and VAT in Euro for quantities over 100:

    svp
    125 - 58.13
    150 - 66.02
    175 - 73.92
    200 - 81.83
    300 - 113.43
    600 - 208.24

    Mediawrite
    125 - 67.69
    150 - 80.37
    175 - 92.77
    200 - 102.75
    300 - 147.52
    600 - 281.83

Therefore, if you are buying 50 discs or less, then mediawrite is cheaper, for anything over 50 discs svp works out much cheaper and it scales much better.

Plus I should point out that over the many times I've ordered from svp, nothing has ever been out of stock and delivery never took more then 2 days, quality.
