Once they are both under 16 and their names (as they appear on the tickets) match the names on your wife's passport, everything is AOK

The only risk is if your wife fell ill (or couldn't come for some other reason)
Then you couldn't bring the kids along with you on your wife's passport.

Next time you are renewing, put their names on yours also - it can't hurt

Think the US might insist on passports for the kids?

    EDIT: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html#6

"Families seeking to enter the U.S. under the VWP using a machine-readable passport will need to obtain an individual passport for each traveler, including infants."

I'm pretty sure you need individual passports for kids now

Last year I went to florida with my family and my 13 year old sister on my mother's passport (I had my own)

saw recently that kids MUST have their own passports from now on for the USA. They cost approx €25 for a child between 3-16, this is a new thing that only came in recently and you cant get kids put on to existing passport for other countries now, they must have their own

That was before the VWP started insisting on MRP though?
