Flying via the US

    The sis is flying from UK to New Zealand. Plane stops over in New York on the way (connecting flight).

    I know she doesn't need a visa, but with the current malarky with the US is she going to have to go through all that messing around with biometric passport/fingerprinting?

    Yup she'll have to go through regular immigration even though she's just connecting, since you say she's flying Uk- US she'll clear it in New York and will need to make sure she's got plenty of time for the connection (think min two hours).
