Strange experience, involving smell...

    The situation:
My girlfriend and I were sitting-up/lying on the bed in my room watching something on TV, nothing unusual on the TV by the way.

    What happened:
Then, within an instant, I started to smell something lemony. In that split second, I thought it was her shampoo or something like that. After one second or so, I realised that it was something much more than that. It was then that she, look round to me as if something was up. We both kinda said "do you smell something" - in the kinda way that the expression explains it all at first, then confirming the smell by saying to each other.
I spend about 3/4 seconds smelling/sniffing it. Then like that, it went as soon as it had arrived. We spent the next 5 (literally) minutes trying to find or work-out what the source of the smell could have been.
The fact is, as we concluded then, there has been nothing lemony in my room for a matter of months now.
I have ruled out any external smell, as the original smell in my room was so strong, but not something that "hits the back of your noise", just a pleasant lemon, but not a side-smell of something else. It was definitely a "pleasant" smell though.

I have since heard a theory about the source of these kind of things, but I'd like to here anything you people have to say about this?

    Thanks a million,
    S.

This is known to occur in paranormal places. I have an uncle whose father died. Weeks after he kept getting this musky smell. My Uncle was also looking for important documentation his father had left behind.
When my uncle located the documentation the smell just went straight out of the air it hasn't come back since.

If you're looking for a possible paranormal explanation then here it is.

Ghosts are recorded sensory information. Thats why sensitive people can see or hear ghosts, because they are picking up on the recorded sensations. Smell can be recorded just as easily as sound or sight.

    Ta da!

    So, em, a cook...or a fruit picker....passed through your...bedroom.

Sensing smell from a psychic source is called clairoma i think, and it is a recognised phenomenon (well among believers anyway ;) ). The sense of smell is a strong trigger of memory, maybe thats why 'they' use it? Although when you said it was lemony all I can think of is that ad on the tv with the guy with underpants on his face :D

Interesting, I thought smell would be a whole different ballgame to sight and sound, being a chemical sensation. Reports from experienced astral projectors say that sights and sounds are enhanced but taste and smell are pretty much absent.

Maybe it's just the image/suggestion of lemons or something that gets transmitted and that triggers the memory of the lemon smell.

This has happened in my house too. My parents were sitting in different rooms and both got the smell of cigarette smoke at the same time.

No one in my house smokes, there was nothing cooking, no windows open, no candles or joss sticks or anything.
My aunt smoked up until she died a few weeks before that. So they think it was her.

percieving "psychic phenomena" through the sense of smell is called clairscent.
    (clairgustance is tasting apparantly)

    <edit:clairoma sounds much better tho>

    i think so.......

But i believe in that stuff.....sending messages from beyod and all that.

on the other hand...Maybe it was your little sister havin a sneaky smoke out the back, cause it's cool!

Òn another spiritual forum, I was reading a thread from a girl whose father had died. The whole time I could smell strong sweet cigarette smoke (was in work and as we all know you cant smoke in work :) ) When I said it to the girl, she thought it was hysterical, as her dad had been into smoking of a particular aromatic substance....

See this could be the reason but I don't have a little sister. 1 older sibling who has outgrown trying to be cool.
Strange how these things happen buts its deadly at the same time
