i am thinking of starting to study towards getting microsoft certification shortly but have simply no idea where to start so what i need to know is:

Totally depends on what sort of job you want to go for,
If you see yourself as a network engineer go for mcse and cisco ccna
If you want to get knee deep in databases etc go for mcse with sql.

I got an MCSE in Windows 2003. It took me 7 months of evening study, to complete 7 exams and I used the offical microsoft press books.

I had already good experience and I considered myself an advanced user / administrator before the exams, I took them as a personal challenge to myself and to assist with career development.

That said I have all the offical exam books for sale now if you are interested, I can also claim that they work ;-)

    Cheers
