I'd like to hear what people think is the best printed newspaper.

Now, not quality of the journalism in this one, but the layout, feel and print quality. And the worst too.

I have opinions on this, but I'd like to hear what other folk think first.

I find that the metro edition of the irish independent is quite good quality print wise and lay out wise. I find the tabloids to be sloppy in their lay out and the way they crop and tinker with their pictures is offputting.

I think the Irish Times has the best lay out and definitely the best print quality. The Indo always looks a bit messy and cheap in comparison.

Now, if only they published a 'Metro' edition of the Times.

I used to think that The Irish Independent was the best laid out newspaper on the Irish market, but lately I'm finding it getting less and less appealing. The front page headlines are getting bigger which gives the whole thing more of a tabloid feel. They're using pictures of journos a lot too, which annoys the hell out of me. All in all it seems to be getting much slopier and less professional looking.

The Irish Times is pretty decent imo, although it can be a bit over-crowded sometimes too (While the Indo can be too bald at times). I like the use of the red throughout the paper on the headers and information boxes, gives a very uniform and managable look to the whole thing.

    And the tabs?

Of the papers I buy the best is problery the Sunday Times dispite its sheer bulk. The print quality on the ST used to be pretty bad. I'd have black finders after a read but that problem seems to have been solved.

The worst must be The Times (of London) the tabloid format has been a
disaster for the Saturday edition which is the only one I buy. There's just not enough room to work with and far too many pages as both news and sport share the one section now.

    Mike.

tbh their layout just seems to be designed to fit the ad's in the best way possible, huge headlines and pictures etc. are very annoying
