Completely disagree with you on 'L.A. Confidential' - great movie and mostly disagree on 'American Beauty', although it's not as clever as it thinks it is. Another overrated movie that's actually woeful is 'A Beautiful Mind'.

'The Frighteners' is definetely underrated though.

Most over-rated : Lost in Translation - complete cack.
Most under rated : mmmmmm, dunno

    Easy

Most over-rated film I've ever seen: Pi

Most under-rated film I've ever seen: Soldier

im delighted ur a lover of that little m j fox project
nobody i knew at the time liked it on its release
i used to reveiw movies for a small mag. any ways

guy pearse was very strong acting wise in l.a conf... but it was a big thinking mans movie and too twisted in the story for my liking
the props and stuff were exelent but i still think its over hyped.
    thanks for you opinion mate.

another over rated movie i taught , but its more cult than any thing . clock work orange.
never saw anything special in it.........

Overrated and underrated as so subjective, this is bound to end up in a scrap ;)

I agree that Pi was completely overrated, LA Confidential aswell, and A Beautiful Mind (incredibly boring).

I loved Lost In Translation though, and The Frighteners was definitely better than people give it credit for. A lot of people seem to hate Startship Troopers, but I actually really liked it.

dude! what the fooks up with that cat?! jeeeezzaasss loike!

Too many movies these days are 'over-rated' before they're even rated at all (ie. pre-release hype).

For underrated, in recent times I'd say HULK. Get's almost nothing but grief.

[edit] Pi would fall into the underrated catagory for me, on account of it being brilliant :p

Starship Troopers is deadly! Yeh it's quite underrated.

I defenitly agree that American Beauty was waaaaay too overrated. pretentious sh*te if ya ask me....

Btw Maximilian are they the wrong way round?

At last! Somebody agrees with me!

and now to find someone who agrees that Soldier was underrated ... probably a harder task.

Agree that HULK is tottally underrated too.

Most overrated: Star Wars (pick one)

Most underrated: Cabin Fever (HELL YEAH!)

American Beauty: Was pure excellence (my 3rd favourite film)

Everyone hated Gigli... it was released here for feck all time in the cinema cos everyone knew how crap it was... the "actors" in it even admited it was dreadful

The Godfather is a classic... it's definitly not under-rated (unless you mean in comparison with Godfather II... imo Godfather was MUCH better than 2)

Some weird stuff going on here. I understand that it's all down to personal taste....BUT

Godfather one, two, and three...BRILLIANT. People say three is poor but that's only in comparison to the other two against most other films of the genre and any other genre for that matter it kicks ass.

American beauty was a good film, not brilliant so maybe it is a little over rated.
    Star Wars is definitelyover rated.
    Cabin Fever wasn't very good.
L.A. Confidential was an exceptional movie
    Lost in Translation was brilliant.

in my opinion, the most over rated film in recent year(s) is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. Nonsense from start to finish.

    my mistake...

i was actualy refering to the 3rd installment of the godfather
i always think of the forst two as really one movie for some reason

i was lucky eough to pick up the rare chronological version
    whitch goes through the whole
story without going back and forward.

first two movies class. pacino is a way better actor than de niro i think.

but the film once upon a time in America
amazing film even though its very long..

Mobile 04, love your signature pic!

Over rated: American Beauty -I couldn't find anything remotely good about that heap of crap.
Closer (yes I'm mentioning it again!)
Bridget Jones - I remember getting it thinking it's be great, it was AWFUL
The Beach - Parts I love but it got WAAAY too much praise.
    Titanic - I needn't explain.
    Love Actually

Under rated: Elf! I never heard much mentioned about it and it's my favourite christmas movie!!
Crazy/Beautiful - didn't hear much about that either and I loved it.

I loved a Beautiful Mind, I thought it was fantastic.

Most under-rated film I've ever seen: Soldier

You must be joking. It's more cack from paul 'bad film' anderson.

    Here's a few that haven't been mentioned

Over-rated: 28 grams (pretends to be more complicated than it really is), Shakespeare in Love (only meh), Mulholland Drive (interesting but not worth the effort trying to figure out wtf happened), XXX (it wasn't bad, it was complete ballox)

Under-rated: Equilibrium, American Psycho (far better than most reviews said it was)

i liked la confidential except for the police captain's sh*** attempt at an irish accent...
i liked american beauty, but i suppose is a bit of an acquired taste.
in america, however, is absolute shvitz.
    meanwhile memento is totally under-rated.

Under-rated: Original version of The Crow with Brandon Lee.
Also Starship Troopers. A silly, but cool alien bugs movie.

Over-rated: LA Confidential and Lost in Translation.

Sorry guys but Hulk was pants, period. What with the CGI Hulk, the split screen scenes, the nonsensical storyline and WTF was up, with the jumping everywhere.

I guess I'm prolly biased anyway coz I woz brought up on Hulk:TOS with the legend Bill Bixby and the great Lou Ferrigno. Anywho just my 2 cents.
    C YA :D
