Consistent NAT errors in BT

Maybe someone can help with this.

I have problems on and off with Bittorrent-it works for a week or two and then just dies and I get a bunch of NAT errors. I've tried everything to resolve this, reset my router, went through my network and firewall settings obsessively.

I'm using the Netopia 3300 on Eircom home DSL. Pinhole is opened for ports 6881-6889, internal port 6881, bound to my desktop-192.168.0.1. I've the port forwarded as well through my firewall. However, I always get NAT errors and as a result, I'll either get huge download speeds, but no uploads or a terrible download/upload speed.

UPnP is disabled and NAT is enabled and set to default passthrough.

I'm a wee bit stuck at this point.

First, try disabling your firewall. Since you're behind a NAT, it's my opinion that you dont need one anyway. *Puts on asbestos suit*. I lived with the horror of a firewall for months before, slowing my pc down constantly. Want to know how many things that it blocked that I wanted it to ? Zero. No attacks at all. The NAT stopped them all in my case. Not saying it'll be the same for you, but I dont feel any need for a firewall at all.

Second, make sure that you've forwarded both TCP and UDP to that address in the Netopia configuration page. It's one of the options when you're making a pinhole, in the form of a dropdown menu. I think that you need both TCP and UDP open for Bittorrent.

Lastly, try using a more unusual port. Something above 45,000. Some trackers will block you from using 6881-6889, and some ISPs throttle traffic on those ports too. Theres nothing to lose by choosing some obscure high port number.

If that lot doesnt work I'm out of ideas. Good luck
