Hello folks, after several years of procrastination, I've finially decided to buy a digital camera, with being skint as the main reason for not doing so before now.

I'm going to go for the FujiFilm S5500.

    Manufacturers page here

    Review here
(that review is for the S5100, which is the previous version, but pretty much still the same camera.

I'm most interested in, obviously the picutre quality, and the zoom.
I'm into aircraft, so I think the zoom will be priceless for that reason.

Here's an example of the impressvie zoom:
    Normal:
    DSCF2291-pp.JPG

    Full zoom:
    DSCF2292-pp.JPG

That's x10 optical zoom by the way, there's 3 digital too, but I think photoshop will take care of that instead.

Do any of you have this camera or know anything about it?

    Cheers,
    S.

How much are you willing to spend?

I'm able to get that camera for £230 (€327.36)
That's about my limit at the moment.

Bummer. If you had more money you could go for something with a hot shoe, such as the FinePix S7000 or FinePix S20 Pro. Still, it appears to be a good camera. The S5500 has received some good reviews from what I can see. I have a very old Fuji digital and really like the build quality and menu system.

Have you considered the Panasonic FZ3 or Konica Minolta Z3? Both have 12x optical zoom and importantly, both have image stabilisation which the Fuji lacks.

Just got a Canon PowerShot A95 from America - worked out at about €270 (retail here €450).

I'm happy with it for snap shots. Still, not hot shoe. Why not save up for an American EOS 300D?
