New rock band looking for amazing front person.

Requirements : Excellent Singer, Great front person/onstage presence ,
    Good looking, 17 - 20.

Lyric writing would also be great but not vital.

Influences: Interpol, My Bloody Valentine, Muse, Orbital, Rush,
    Dido.

What if you found a person who was an Excellent Singer and a Great front person had loads of onstage presence but wasn't particularly good looking? would you turn them down and hold out for looks.... I'm sorry to go off on one but I just don't understand why you put that as one of your requirments! What have looks got to do with anything... surely tallent is what matters. Obviously "Your a Star" is bekoning you or something, but you need to get over it

Your obviously ugly for taking offence to that. lol Who you trying to fool saying looks arnt important in a front person, you obviously dont have a clue what your taking about so im not going to try and explain the real world to your little brain.

    Ouch! jungle boogie.
I have to say Im a good looking female,18, with a great voice who really gets a crowd goin on stage,Im not at all big headed but know my good talents and was interested in joining your band, but after reading your reply 2 the other fella, your attitude is bang out of order.I hope you find yourself a good front man/woman but until you do,try and sort out that hook of a tongue.Best of luck.

    Thanks for the tip Molliemalone,
Im normally not that harsh on people but I just find it annoying how some people can be so clueless. My attitude towards that person was pretty bad but when it comes to music it is 100% IN order.
In order to make it big my band have decided to hold out on many offers of front people until we find that one who clicks, if anyone out there would like to audition for the place email giantspacepanda@hotmail.com
This is a serious band, we already have been offered to make an EP (for free) and have a manager. Also we have many tracks already down and are considering getting a keyboardist.
As i said, this is a serious band so only serious replys please.

Hang on? All frontpersons are goodlooking, i've never heard the genius that is thom yorke being profiled in the top100 of anything to do with looks. In fact i heard radiohead, who in many peoples opinion are one of the best bands ever, described as a rather unattractive band from england. They seem to "get by" don't you think? Billy Corgan? Freddy Mercury? David Bowie? So if a person had all the perfect requirements aside from looks you'd give them the boot? Yup it's all about the music isn't it?

What you are forgetting is all the prople you have mentioned have a unique selling point, Thom Yorke=Lazy eye, Billy Corgan=Bald Head, Freddy Mercury=Moustache, Wierd Teeth, David Bowie=Different Colour eyes. Also all the people you mentioned may not be "typically" good looking but they are pretty good looking in their own way.You seem to assume we are looking for a tall slim blonde girl with big tits and skimpy clothes, want we is someone with a bit of class about them. Im sorry to tell you that in the music industry image is as important as the music, its sick and disguisting but thats just the way it is and you have to make it work for you.

not as 'disgusting' as your spelling.....

shut up you fool, proper music is about music, if you're looking for a boy band i'm sure Louis Walsh can help you out, who gives a **** what someone looks like everyone is different and certain people are attracted to certain people so even the term "goodlooking" seems a bit silly. Goodlooking to who exactly? you? do you have to be attracted to them? sorry im ranting and drunk but you do seem to have the wrong idea of music. So i'll tell you what music is about.

MUSIC IS ABOUT SELF EXPRESSION, ABOUT EXPRESSING AN EMOTION TO PEOPLE THAT THEY CAN HOPEFULLY RELATE TO.

IT'S NOT ABOUT ..... LOOK I'M NOT GONNA WASTE ANYMORE TIME...

    DON'T LEAVE YOUR DAY JOB....

good comment, yeah you sound like a business man, unique selling point. That's in my Leaving Cert business book. I know you wanna make it big, but you sound more like you are making a friccin product. Image wasn't even everything with the smashing pumpkins, he wore a big black cloak, the guitarist a frilly ass suit most of the time, and the bassist a dress fit for ballet, and the drummer....well he looked like he was going to the gym. (this is all based upon the majority of live shows i have seen them in, recordings not being there) So basically they "got far" and were not about the image. I can understand about the front person being unique, and having their own charms about them, but that is not well described by the word/s "good looking". As i said the very fact you even used the term Unique selling point suggests it's alot to do with the money that can be made. I mean no i didn't buy siamese dream because i saw this bald headed guy and said wow that's a band i want to like.

lol, ok did you actually read your post before you posted it? You just explained how image WAS important to the smashing pumpkins. I have also seen many Pumpkins shows and you have to admit they dress up alot on stage, thats all part of image.
In responce to me wanting to make money in music, all i want to do is be famous, iv been in enough bands at this stage to know that if we are going to make it big this time we arnt going to comprimise on band members, we want the best we can get.

And about that comment about music being about expression, of course it is you fool thats why i play it and why i want to make it big. I cant believe you are all so blind to image being so important in a band.

I'm afraid becoming famous is purely about music. If they think you look great, they will write the songs for you, but in the end it's the music. So if you're crap, you will be stuck no matter how good you look. Most bands get started from some sort of demo, not a picture.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13 Jungle Boogie

Well obviously the music is utimately the most important thing but realistcally you need to have a good image to get big.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,345 ✭✭✭Velvet Vocals

    A) You're a moron.
    B) Nope, A just about covers it.
Baldness is not a unique selling point, or Jean Luc Picard would have been a rock star and not captain of the enterprise. Not to mention that Billy Corgan wasn't bald when the Pumpkins were signed. Two different colour eyes is possibly the weakest excuse to hold up an already anemic argument I have ever had the misfortune of reading while drinking tea. You should have a general warning if you're going to be so retarded. Peoples keyboards are at risk here. Are you actually saying David Bowie (who incidentally is all about the image) has been successful due to his retina? honestly? Image has little or nothing to do with looks, and in case you have let your original post slide out of your head in an effort to sleep better at night, let me refresh your memory, you asked for a good looking 17-20 year old. Why not cut out the middleman and just beat off? If you were looking for image why not ask for someone with, oh, I don't know, "Image? Presence?" Oh, now I remember, you're a moron.

gah, i wrote a whole big reply, and something to do with boards messed it up. Anyway no i didn't contradict myself in my post. What i was saying was that the smashing pumpkins had no collective image they were trying to advertise. They just got on with the music. Most goth bands or whatever decide at the beginning that is the music they will play, and that they will all feckin wear black. Where as when corgan decided to wear black cloaks and shave his head, the others just wore their normal wear. The cheek of you Boogie asking me did i read my post, when the talking point of this thread is: Did you read your initial post?

"Well he's not attractive but he's a midget, so he's in!"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

"Not only is he a midget, but he can't even SING!!!" :o

"That's the most unique selling point we've had from any of the auditions all day - Ok, everyone else can go home, we just found our new frontman!!!" :D

Honestly JB, you truly are full of s**t...

And Billy Corgan had a generous mop of hair right up until after Mellon Collie... Oh my God, I just realised that when he went bald SP became cr&p; it's all so clear to me now

I dunno, i haven't really heard that album, machina: the god of machines, but everlasting gaze is a fairly cool song, at least i have a fairly good live performance of it on my computer

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,391 ✭✭✭arbeitsscheuer

well, Adore was awful, and I kinda lost interest after that...

The critics panned Machina, but hardcore fans seemed to like it, so i dunno.

TBH, that wasn't the point I was making though - I was tryin to be sarcastic in suggesting a link between Billy Corgan's singing/songwriting ability and his barnet or lack thereof, which is of course completely ludicrous (altho not according to Jungle Boogie...)

well, each to his own, as the saying goes...

Everyone has their own opinion (hence the existence of boards like this :D )

Whats confusing me is at you all think i dont know what im talking about.

What's confusing me is that you think anyone will take you seriously! Your the one that is living in a fantasy if you think that you can just ask for someone that's good looking and talented and somehow the music fairy will wave her magic wand and you'll be blessed with Gwen Steffani
You've got to have something behind the looks and the image or else your West Life! and if you write/play music as well as you've expressed your self on this board then you obviously are going to be relying heavily on image!..... So in the immortal words of George Harrison..."Your Fu*ked!"

Alright you are starting to raunt at me now which is a step too far. Im afraid that you all seem to be showing anger towards me and I dont know why you are being so harsh. Bye.

If challenging you on something you said that I deem to be unacceptable is "too much" for you then I am sorry but maybe you should reconsider posting on boards, I think you'll find that people tend to challenge you here!
