Kernel 2.6.10 borks hardware volume control

I've just installed the 2.6.10 kernel on my laptop, running under Arch Linux 0.7. Up to now I've been using a custom-compiled 2.6.9 with no issues. I used the existing .config and did a make oldconfig to compile the .10 kernel, and it installed and booted with no problem.

However, when I tried to adjust the volume, using the hardware keys Fn+ PgUp/PgDn, the machine locked up hard, and could only be rescued with a hard reset. After rebooting, I noted that the volume could be adjusted via software i.e. alsamixer, so it's the hardware itself that is conflicting with the new kernel.

I'm digging around for ideas, so I thought I'd ask here if anyone had heard of this kind of thing?

I'd go back to 2.6.9 for a while. Imho, 2.6.10 is borked in alot of ways.

Yeah - did that straight away.

    I suppose I'll leave it a while.
