Outerbody Experiences?

    what defines an outerbody experience?

last year I was introduces to this world by a friend of a friend (we are no-longer on speaking terms) anywho, he said it could be done at any time, day or night, and when you are experiencing one, you can do anything, as if you become your free spirit and live, for as long as you want, as one. He also said that only a select few ppl can do this, that part I believe, I am not saying I don't believe the rest, I do believe in the whole outerbody experience, and I got really interested in it.

however, a few days ago I was having a convo with some dude on another forum about it, and HE defined an outerbody experience as a dream, which you see in colour, and where you chooses what you do.

If the latter is true, then I have experienced it, I recently had two dreams where I was concious of what I was doing, and was able to manipulate my actions, also the dreams were in colour.

so my question is: what do you define as an outerbody experience?

Ok first of all its Out Of Body Experience, not outerbody experience. What you're describing is a lucid dream. While you're asleep you suddenly realise that you're dreaming and can take control of the dream. It is very easy to learn (relatively) but can happen to anyone at any time(asleep, duh). Some people have a natural talent for it, but anyone can do it.

An OOBE is when, reporidly, your soul leaves your body and you can percieve and move, free of commonly understood physics. It is most common with people that are near death, called a near death experience. Many however, claim to be able to will themselves to do it, usually with meditation and usually called astral projection/travel when it's deliberate.

As for near death experiences, the only thing that would imply it's not just stress or wierd coma dreams is that people often claim (accurately) that they saw and heard what was going on in the hosptal as the doctors worked on their now dying body. Critics of this say that the injured person could have been somewhat aware of what was going on around them and simply incorporated what they heard into the dream/fever state/coma hallucination.

That was all fact, the rest is opinion.

I would say that "astral travel" is nothing more than a lucid dream done by a person expecting astral projection. Think about it, whats likely to happen a person that takes control of their dreams while thinking they were going to leave their body?

To summarise, people percieve stuff and there's no way to prove that they didn't. Quite frankly no one can be really sure what it all means.

Yes that's correct, every night our astral body leaves our physical body for the astral plane. In normal dreaming, we're not concious of this. Lucid dreaming typically refers to when we are already dreaming and become aware of it, whereas in astral projection we start from an awake state and remain concious of the entire process feeling ourselves exit our physical bodies as we slip into dream state. You can still slip into a subconcious dream state even after astrally projecting. It's best to do astral projection in the morning when your brain is geared for R.E.M. sleep and your mind isn't so tired as to allow you to slip into subconcious mode.

I find lucid dreaming a whole lot easier but that's because I have a tendency to insomnia so normal sleep is difficult enough for me, not a mind astral projection :D

Maybe you're delirious after lack of sleep? :D

Anybody can have an out of body experience, it's a natural talent within all of us, but like maths or football, some people find it easier, this is a really good book to learn with

    Also check out this website

I managed to do it a few times, In realtion to lucid dreaming the best way to do them is each day do a reality check e.g. look at your hand and notice what it looks like in reality and ask yourself is this situation real, after awhile your brain will become accustomed to doing reality checks and you'll find yourself doing a reality check in your dreams, realise it's a dream and be able to do what you want

I can highly recommend Robert Monroe's books.

You could also check out the International Institute of Projectiology and Conscientiology - I've found that site very informative.

Also, in the same vain as 'reality checks', simply reading, thinking and talking about lucid dreaming / OoBE's will keep the idea fresh in your mind and therefor make it easier to do (it's all about training your mind after all).
