I recommend wiping. I have done MS upgrades before and the OS ran like a dog. Back up what you need, wipey wipey.

2k - xp is hardly an upgrade
they are basicly the same thing

Have to agree with tuxy, first thing I do with an XP machine is to set all the views to "classic" and make it look as much like 2K as possible. Even M$ use the 2K interface on windows 2003 (released after XP). Under the bonnet most things are very similar , you get some new bells and you loose a few whistles.

Also the COST is not worth it. If you have an OEM copy of 2K and you upgrade then the copy of XP is now also non-transferrable to another PC, so you are really looking at the cost of a new license..

If 2k works leave it alone
If 2K has problems then upgrading won't fix them

Yup, agree with both before me. I wouldn't be arsed personally, but if you really want to, the best way to wipe is probably a quick format.

    What should you backup?

Well, when I backup I take documents, game save files, music files, bookmarks, configuration files for my favourite apps, installers for my favourite apps, blah, blah, blah.

It takes me hours to get everything together that I couldn't do without :)

Oh, and make sure you have the latest service pack too. Video drivers, sound drivers, etc. etc.

If you're not sure what you're doing, or you're not really comfortable with the whole idea of a wipe, then probably best not to do it.
