Security update messed up iTunes

    I Installed the critical security update for iTunes on Saturday; ever since then iTunes has kept turning into a zombie process.

    I'll open iTunes, play a few songs, go away, come back, and it's in the dock and running, but won't do anythign when I click on its icon.

    It says 'application not responding'. kill -9 won't kill it.
    When I do top it says there's a process stuck. ps x shows it as 0.00 and E.

    All I can do is reboot to kill it.

    Anyone else experience this?

    Its possibly something to do with the new version of iTunes.
    Not sure if its the same on Mac but I got the new iTunes a few days ago and have been noticing some bugs with it that weren't in previous versions.

    Nah i've had no problems with the new version, it's literally since I installed the security update yesterday that this problem has begun.

    It's been working as usual for me (I installed the update yesterday). Are you using the Windows or Mac version of iTunes? Have you tried to download and installing it again? Have you tried running fix permissions?

    I think she's running the Mac version :)

    Aye :)

    I'm going to uninstall the update tonight when I get home from work and see what happens. I've installed nothing else in the past week apart from that update.

    Keep us posted. So far I have installed the update now on 5 computers, including 3 Mac's, and I have not seen any issues. What you might try before doing anything else is to run "Fix Permissions" on your system, just in case the installer did not set permissions properly. I know it's unlikely, but it's something worth trying.

    How are you going to uninstall an update? I haven't figured out a way to do this easily on X...

    Anyway, you could also (in addition to fixing permissions) try updating prebinding, open a terminal and type:

    $ update_prebinding -root /
