Right. I have this on one of my pc's (main one's in pieces at the mo). Anywho, it's doing my head in. Instead of it working properly, it's slowing the cpu down and what not whenever the hell it wants. And what's more annoying is I can't find the little red button that says "off".
I've checked the BIOS and didn't see naff. I've looked just about everywhere for it and can't find anything even mentioning it anywhere.
    Anyone any ideas?

    I've got an AMD 64 3200+ in a Fujitsu-Siemens D1607 (K8T800 chip).
    Any help's much appreciated.

afaik it doesn't slow the cpu down, but the cpu fan depending on the cpu usage

Yup, Cool 'n' Quiet is all about the fan speed. It has nothing to do with the actual CPU. It just measures the ambient temperature.

and the power options in the control panel should have a amd cool n quiet tab so you can mess with the settings in there

i could have swarn cool n quiet interupts cpu clock cycles when idle so heat and power consumption is reduced.

CnQ definitely slows the the processor. I tried it once and it everything was really slow when I played games. It doesnt go back to normal which it should do.

it works fine on all motherboards now, some needed a bios update. It basically just keeps your cpu utilisation at 100%, reducing/raising clock speed to max/min as it does so

My motherboard has it too but I've got a ThermalTake fan which plugs into the PSU rather than the motherboard. So I don't think it makes much difference to me. I have it enabled anyway, my motherboard is an MSI K8N Neo Platinum Edition, never had any problems.
