From what I hear things there are quite good - but hard to get into. Someone here might have some more specific info

Conditions are very good (free lunch, regular trips to head office in US, flexible working hours, free computer equipment if required for the job etc..). Not sure about the pay levels though.

It is quite hard to get into. The recruitment process takes many months (emphasis on many) and many interviews. If the job is "important" enough, the last stage of the process is they fly you to head office in California where you undergo more interviews tests etc...

Good God I'd be highly pissed if I had to fly to the US for an interview and then didn't get the job

If it was a last stage interview and you didn't get it then you are well within your rights to bill them for it.

As for google, generally don't you have answer crazy puzzles in your head on the fly.

I said they fly you, which implies that they pay for it. Or at least I thought it did.

Could be worth applying just for that

If you haven't applied yet and you're still thinking of doing so, I'd strongly recommend it. The interview process is a real pain, but once you're in, its pretty damn sweet.

out of curiosity what kind of jobs are you talking about, is it basically just for people with IT degrees, or do they have a range of departments based over here?

Yep, as you can see in the jobs section, there's a lot of jobs on offer. Batches of new people are starting nearly every week. The biggest expansion area at the moment is AdWords and AdSense, for which you dont need an IT qualification. Something like a marketing, communications, advertising, or journalism degree is what's needed for those particular areas.

I sent in my details on Monday morning got the automated replies so just waiting and hoping now.

You'd know it's a high profile job when they go to expense of shipping you over for interview.

What position did you apply for if you don't mind me asking?

    Server Room Technician

ah right, ok, thats not my area at all, so i'm afraid i haven't got a clue what kind of recruitment process to tell you to expect ;)

Do you have any idea roughly what their contact delay is, ie: the time between sending in teh resume and getting a reply?

    Used to be weeks/months.

It can be quite slow, but i think it's in the ball park of a couple of weeks instead of months.
