You're being a dick talking about a company like that without going into detail about your experience.

    detail: I bought a router
    detail: it didn`t work
detail: I had a lot of trouble trying to return it
    detail: I was lied to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

    That isn't detail.

What was the problem with the router?
    What lies were you told?
What reason did they give for not letting you return it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 42 Splash

the problem was it was not compatible with my internet connection.

The lies I was told was that they tested it but that was impossible because to do that they would have had to guess my password, change the IP addresseses and re-change the pass word to the original which they couldn`t have known n the first place.

The reason: "You have to know this is what you need before you buy it"

Their returns polisy was actually unlawful at the time I bought it, but I believe I was resp[onsible for them changing it on their website, because the majority of their customers seem to be timid chinese people....

    But I took a stand!!!

I presume you`ve read my reply, eth0_, and you are deliberately not responding because you have a liking for said company....which is fair enought,
but I just want to re-illuustrate my original point... The manager of IT Direct is a DICK. ;)

maybe she has gone offline as it's late...

never dealt with itdirect but i have heard good things about them from people in a desparate rush to buy something for example a job and they can't wait for a internet company to ship to them

I'm guessing she didn't reply because your post was quite moronic.

my hunch is they get all their **** from www.aria.co.uk (or some company with similar policies)...which is fair enough,, but my problem is when I go back to return something and the manager basiclly telles me to **** off

Now this is most unusual Etho and me in full agreement!:)

While we all have difficulties from time to time with businesses it is surely not the purpose of boards to allow someone to come on and try to ruin the reputation of a business on the basis of a claim 'I bought a router there once' Are you suddenly getting in touch with your anger or something like that?

If you are complaining about a business then as Etho says you should give full details of what happened. Again it is not the purpose of boards to abuse a member of staff or manager.

In response to Ethos questions you then post some details.

You contradicit yourself as firstly you say it did not work.
You then say it was imcompatible with your internet connection. So in facxt it was impossible for the product to work with your setup.

They are two very different things. If you bought something that was wrong for you that was your own fault not the shops. I notice that you do not say anywhere that they gave you wrong advice before the purchase.

It was not necessarily impossible for them to test it as routers can very easily be reset to factory settings - anyone can do that.

This seems to be a case of you buying a wrong product (on your own admission it was incompatible with your connection) and then trying to blame the shop and now trying to ruin their reputation.

There is no evidence anywhere in your posts that this product did not work as you claim so who is telling lies?

And can I redress the balance here somewhat and say I have been a customer of IT direct on many occasons ( I have absolutely no connection with them at all I can assure you!) and I have always found them obliging helpful and in particular they will always give advice on any products you ask them about.

Yes, but I do have a router that works.

BTW the fact that nobody even aknowledges the over whelming proof that I was actually lied to only further backs up my argument that theyre a bunch of inbred tw@s

I do have to say that I'm not terribly inclined to use ITDirect for anything save a cable after I was repeatedly fed crap about delivery dates for a PSU that I was looking for. This dragged on for over a month and a half before I finally said "sod off".

I've used them twice. Granted, they gave me some incorrect advice about a router (of all things...) but once I brought it back they aknowledged their mistake and exchanged it without any problems.

The guys seemed friendly and willings to help.

I think each succesive post of yours devalues any argument you might have had in relation to your dealings with IT direct and your constant propensity to abuse would certainly generate sympathy for any staff member of IT direct that may have had dealings with you.

You seem chronically incapable of making any comment or argument without it containing abuse. Nobody here can ever know whether you were lied to or not as nobody was privy to your dealings with IT direct.

You have not disputed that you bought a product that was not suited to what your needs were and on that basis decided it was not working.

I hope that your continued abuse of all and sundry will very quickly attract the attention of the mods.

On a site note how did they lie?
By your own admission you said the router would not work with your line, IT Direct could have tested it with a compatible line and it very well may have worked, how can you tell otherwise since it was "incompatible with yours"?

    Agreed,
Its obvious that Splash is pissed off because he/she couldn't do there research before buying the router, it happens but its the customers fault.

    Exampe:
I need a cross-over cable, I goto random PC shop and buy a standard ethernet cable, It does not work for the job I need it
The shop DO NOT have to give me the cross-over cable if I go back and want them to switch it, it was my fault I got the incorrect product.

btw Splash, I'm sure you'll be ok soon once you get banned. [EDIT] Did'ient see the last post with the ban notice ;)

Actually (s)he sounds like a thoroughly unpleasant character. I'm not surprised in the slightest that (s)he received unsatisfactory service from the customer representative - one can only guess how they were initially approached about this issue.

yes, their manager(the fat guy) is a real b*****d, I bought a tv tuner, which was opened and then decided that I didn't like it, and the a$$ didn't take it back saying that it was opened, I agree to never buy from those a$$holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Kazujo

Did you pay full price for it? They do not have to take it back because you didn't like it as has been said in this thread already. If it's not faulty they are not obliged to exchange it. Albeit some shops wil but that's at the stores descretion

yep paid full price, I don't know maybe they were right, maybe not the only thing I know is that after that experience I learned a good lesson, always read shop's terms and conditions before buying anything from it :)

and btw, I'm so happy I couldn't return the tv tuner now, as it turned out it has ntsc support which many cards don't have, that I started to need now :)

That's no reason for them to give you your money back. Why should they lose money just because you had a change of heart?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,573 ✭✭✭Infini

I've actually bought a couple of items from the store including a D-Link wireless router of my own. The staff there seem to be nice enough though I haven't met the manager. While it's a pain if something you bought is faulty and you have to bring it back, if you use the nice guy routine and play the unfortunate victim of bad hardware you can usually get them to fold. If it's a case of passwords for a router however you can't blame them for not taking it back. Seriously unless the item is faulty when it was originally bought they unfortunately for yourself have no obligation to take it back. However if they're screwing you off like this and you feel like you've been royally fleeced maybe you can report them to the consumer rights organisation.

well that's why I'm not going to shop with them again, cause other shops like peats and maplin do take things back if you don't like them within 7 days if you have the reciept.

Infini, that's what put me off the most, ok don't take the thing back, but don't lie and deny that the thing was opened when I bought it.

Ouch. If it was opened in the first place they should have at least given you store credit or something. Did you return it on the same day or was it less than 7 days after you bought it. Oh, what kind of tuner was it by the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,558 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

I returned it the next day,

    it is Pinnacle PCTV Pro

very nice tv tuner tbh, I'm actually happy now that I couldn't return it :D

Ah, thats a good make. Pity you got such a sh!tty service but at least you got a useful item in the end. They should have given you something else though as they gave you a reciept and all.

In fairness to the shops we are the very ones (us discerning boards contributors :)) who do not want goods in open boxes. So if shops operate a very liberal return policy word is going to get around very quickly and guess what? loads of goods in open boxes that you and I will not take. this means a lot of money tied up in stock that will not sell very easily

And we have all heard people telling us how they bought games/software etc copied it and returned it the next day.

It is easy to forget how much financial pressure there is on small businesses. A guy I know opened a small shop in Temple Bar a while ago and he was telling me that his insurance bill alone is over 6000 euro!

I have had my arguments too with shops of course but when you stand back a bit from the situation you can see why they are wary about taking things back 'easily'

Cyber while I know you were annoyed surely we should not be allowing boards to become a forum for abuse of shop managers/staff. I dont think we would appreciate the it shops having a forum where they let off steam about their customers - I dont want to seem like a lecturing bore - but I know I would not take too kindly to the manager of IT direct being allowed on here to refer to me as that ancient fat baldy geezer even if some of the abusive/descriptive terms were starred out :) .

im sure many ppl have gone and fixed pcs / routers without knowing passwords ips etc..

ye old safemode / return to default settings button

I've used IT direct quite a bit, and on a couple of occasions returned faulty items without a bat/eyelid. Anyone who I have dealt with has always been pleasant (even on occasion when you know they're not feeling that way). Their website is a work of fiction - but then again I know and ring beforehand if need be.
