have you tried it on another machine, or try installing the hd into the computer to make sure it's not a problem with the enclosure?

not sure tbh, its obviously an issue with your machine.

what version of windows are you running?

are all your device drivers up to date, in particular the usb drivers?

You need to rule out the hardware enclosure by, as kdouglas suggested, putting the hard drive in as a second hard drive in a pc. I wouldn't worry too much about there not being enough space to fit the second hard drive, you should be able to leave the cover open while you test it.

what do u mean by 'no good' did you get an error msg, did the computer even detect the drive?

you said it worked fine in another computer, then you say you tried formatting it in another computer but it didnt work? which is it?

also, you still havent said what operating system you are using?
what type (make/model) of computer have you got?
what are the specifications of the computer?

just to clarify a little, answer yes/no to the following:

    1. when you plug the drive in by usb, does it show up in My Computer (assuming your using windows?)

    2. have you tried connecting the hdd inside the computer by ide cable?

2.a. if yes then does it then show up in My Computer
2.b. if no have you tried checking the bios to see if the drive is detected there?

    3. does it show up on another computer when connected by usb?

    4. does it show up on another computer when connected by ide?

    thanks

Edit: just re-read this and i may come across as slightly rude, but please understand you need to be specific about your problem.
