i have one myself, and although, i prefare the layout and design of the 3G Ipods, the battery's arent the best at all. I find myself having to charge it everynight if ive used it that day. Also, if the one your thinking of buying is over about 11 months (like mine), the battery is probably about to pack it in altogether. After 12 or so months, the ipod batteries basically die, holding very little charge. You can replace the battery yourself though, making it as good as new. (as i am going to do). The batteries cost ~$30 on the net. You have to pry off the backing yourself and fish out the old battery. Otherwise you can send it off to apple, and they'll replace it for you (~€100 last time i checked).

This is why I'll never buy an ipod, as 'stylish' and 'trendy' as they are.

Why not get a Creative? It's cheaper and holds roughly the same amount.

I've heard enough from loads of people about battery problems. Of course, maybe you treat your battery well etc etc

I would recomend the Creative range of players, The ZEN Touch, looks similar to the iPod, and it comes it a nice range of HD sizes, my bro. just bought the 20Gig one for ~300

I've heard stuff on the intarweb is all tbh. Still heard enough though. All I'm saying is that, despite being far and away the market leaders, they have the worst battery (12 hrs) compared to sony (28 hrs) and creative (24 hrs) they dont have the best battery life.

Of course here's me whos gonna be using a Sony PSP for his music playing needs soon, so who am I to talk about battery life :)

I hate to go al-Qa'ida on your thread but a few friends of mine have gone with this as an I-pod alt.

    The Gmini400 by Archos

It can view videos in Divx format as well as Mp4s etc... They seem very pleased with it and I think theyre bloody cool.

The iRiver H3xx series can be modded to play XviD movies aswell. Nice piece of kit.
