Well I've been seeing these ad where the smug guy (Ian!!) comes in (the one where hes dying of the flu but wairing a business suit ...o please...that taps the space bar about about 5 times on a laptop) and says its "sorted" to some enthusiatic looking marketing type.

I was truely flu inflicted over the new year..didnt have much of a cough..but did have dizzy head, muscle aches and hot and cold spells..bed was the ONLY solution.

In work i moved to another department and had the pleasure of sitting beside someone coughing and spluttering away ......i got it from him.
Well my voice has gone..i feel slightly poorly..but its is no patch on real flu at all.
Lemsip is bull**** imho (allegedly) if you even think of Lemsip max strength you are a pussy.

Flu means BED ...screw these misleading adverts that prompted this rant...if you have flu ..lemsip will do fúck all for you..sleep will help tho ..if you have a cold ...this crap will lower your temperature and prolong the illness...

Longfield alledges that Lemsip is the worst thing you can take with a cold ..and if you have the Flu ..you will be too ill to even consider it...

    Ban Lemsip!!

Lemsip, beechams and all that crap never work. Pure placebo marketing in effect. Get your ass to bed and stay there.
I mean, for christ sake, look at it. It looks like lemon coccaine or something. You'd be better off snorting it up your hooter. That said, I did that for a dare once and it hurt bad.

Tis full of paracetamol too, so if you're taking any other drugs you'll **** up your liver.

Yep. And the magical secret ingredient in Lemon Max Strength that makes it so brilliant in comparison to standard Lemsip is dadaddadahhhh - caffeine (to perk you up so you can go go even though your muscles feel like someone infused them with pain causing lead and you can't see out your eyes for the water).

The only half decent ingredient is the vitamin c which you can get in much better forms (without the high sugar hit which puts further strain on your battered system).

And I'm pretty sure that "relieving" a fever isn't a good idea as it gives the virus further chance to spread. Your body creates a fever so its internal temperature is too high for the virus to breed optimally.

It won't get *rid* of a cold/flu but it will help combat with the symtoms of it.
    That's the fact.
The illness will last as long as it will take to run its course, but this product, and some others like it, will make it seem less obvious to you and others around you.

If Lemsip could cure the flu then why would people get vaccinated against it?!? There's a diff between having a cold and having the flu - people died of the flu. Obviously this "Ian" in the ad had a cold/chill and rang in to say he had the flu, thats why the other guy reckoned he could move into his office and steal his projects and stuff cos he thought he'd be out for a week. IF ONLY this happened in real life - anytime I'm sick theres always a pile of stuff waiting for me on my return!! I don't think we should ban it cos that ad with the lemon guys dancing around was class :D

What you really need is to throw a drop of whiskey or brandy into it.

It says on the ad 'It seperates the men from the boys' , now I would deerly like to see what they mean by that . Also what about women who use lemsip . Start complaining maybe it will get rid of that ****ing that .

In theory though, you're better off *not* trying to combat the symptoms. The symptoms of cold/flu are caused by your body, in an attempt to destory the virus. Any type of medication which prevents your body from creating these symptoms will prolong the illness.

Despite all our sophistication, there is still no better cure for a flu than two days off work, plenty of sleep, plenty of water, and plenty of relaxing. Hot toddies probably work along the "help you get to sleep" principle of curing colds.

Lemsip sucks, Uniflu tablets however, are the shizzle.

I went to a summer camp back in July and got a bad cold. Most likely it was from change it diet/sleeping schedule/daily goings on. I was understandably busy so couldn't like take a day off to rest. I went to get some Lemsip and opted for the Max Strength just cos' I didn't care about taste or anything and just wanted to get past the cold as quick as possible. It was terrible! It tasted awful so I had to sip it slowly to stop it making me gag. Plus I had to take 3 mugs a day for like 3 days or something like that. That was an uncomfortable week.

In it's defense it did make me feel better for a few hours afterwards therefore allowing me to get on with things like homework and discos and general socialising.

That's another use for it. Older women looking for some young male loving bring it to discos so they won't get in trouble for getting off with an underage boy by mistake. Lemsip makes all the underagers' faces turn green.

Sure they never claim that lemsip et al cure colds and flu, merely that they relieve the symptoms. But they will help with flu by bringing your temperature down as they contain paracetamol.

The funny thing is that if you ask a pharmacist to recommend something for a bad cold or flu they will more than likely just point you to the paracetemol. In my experience the only reliable way to get rid of a bad cold or flu is to take paracetemol for temperature control and go to bed.

    Lemsip is just:

    Paracetemol
    Vitamain C
    A base sugar (probably Glucose)
    Caffine (in Max Strength)

... and the psychological boost of a hot drink that you think might help you.

Also, much as I'd prefer if people who had the flu stayed at home, more often than not if the job involves some level of responsibility they'll end up in spreading whatever they have for a couple of weeks rather than getting rid of it in a few days.

Instead of taking Lemsip (which tastes like muck anyways), you should fix yourself a drink of garlic, cayenne pepper, vitamin C, echinacea, green tea and colloidal silver (if you can get it that is). It tastes like absolute ****E, but it'll make you better SO much faster.

but it separates the men from the boys.

actually have there ever been ads with women duying of the flu,

and why doesnt the flu spread through the whole ooffice/family in these adverts

and its only office workers who seem to get the flu in these adverts. builders must be immune. thats I want to be a builder.

I must be weird cos it has the opposite effect on me. The paracetemol puts me to sleep so I have a nice deep sleep and wake up feeling slightly better, and I suppose the vitamin C helps as well.

You are supposed to try and bring down a fever. You can't just leave someone with a temp thats sky rocketing just because you think the virus will spread. If your temp is thru the roof then its too late, youve already been infected and your body is reacting to it. If left with an extremely high temp you can start to hallucinate, and children can have convulsions.
True your body does up your temp, but you are supposed to try bring it down trust me.
