Ok, so my computer has finally gone and died, and i'm getting a new one, and just wondering if it is worth getting xp pro? or saving the 100 odd euro and spending it on something else? computer is just used at home, for internet, and general family use, games etc., nothing major, just wondering what people think,

    cheers

Here's what I can think of off the top of my head. XP Home is missing the following features:

    Remote Desktop server
    Group Policy
    Local Users & Groups
    NTFS file encryption
    NTFS access permissions
    Dynamic disks
    Dual processor support
    Saving network server passwords

If you don't need any of these features then save yourself some dough and get Home Edition.

The home edition ain't so bad but it's really a stripped down version of the pro edition. If you wan't to get pro cheap go to peats and ask if they have a student edition of windows XP. It's pretty much an upgrade version of pro but the price is less than the home upgrade version. Got mine for only 125 yoyo's!
    :D

Won't you need to produce a Student ID to get it? Which of course is no issue if you are a student...

Also check the license , not sure about windows but the Academic version of Office can't be used once you finish full time education.

Nope, when I went to get it they didn't once ask for a student ID.
