Snowboarding in the Dolomites

Thinking of heading to one or other of the resorts in the Dolomites (eg Val-Gardena) snowboarding. Has anyone any experience of doing a similiar trip? I don't really want to do a package, prefer to fly to Bergamo or Venice and make my way by train/bus, plus maybe see some of Venice/Milan as part of it. Just curious how…

Just curious how hard/easy people have found getting trains + busses and booking accomodation themselves. Any tips appreciated.
