    you can
With up to 1G of storage space, iPod shuffle happily accommodates files along with your music. Via iTunes, you tell iPod shuffle how much storage space to leave free for files and how much to Autofill with music. Then use iPod shuffle as a portable backup drive or to exchange files between multiple computers.

I think the iPod Shuffle is interesting but this point about a pen-drive makes me worry about it's longevity.

Why? I have been using USB flash pen-drives for a few years and I've found that after a year it's nearly impossible to get a good quality USB connection with them and to exchange data. I guess it's because repeated plugging in and out wears out the contacts. Every year I trash my old pen-drive and buy a new one.

Would this mean that in a year's time that I would be struggling to get songs onto an iPod shuffle ?
