    Hi All,
Here's the detail of the Carlow shoot. I'll be emailing all clubs theses details too. i'll be ringing each club contact the week before the competition looking for names and categories of each archer.

We'll have to restrict each club to 10 archers for the moment but I'm sure there'll be some clubs not bringing 10.

Group 1 UCD, DCU, DIT, Carlow. Start shooting at 10

Group 2 GMIT, UL, NUIG, Maynooth. Start shooting at 12

Athlone and Cork can decide themselves which group they want to shoot in.

There's a bus from Dublin at 7:15. That'll have you down at 9. The bus stops right outside the college.
The train station is a good 30 minute walk from the college so I wouldn't recommend that.

There's no direct route from Galway, Cork or Limerick to Carlow so Galway will have to go to dublin and get a bus/train from there and Limerick and Cork will have to go to Waterford and get a bus/train from there.

Prizes: Usual team prizes, Best barebow, 1st, 2nd, 3rd beginner and 1st, 2nd 3rd advanced.

Entry fee is the usual 7 euro per archer.

does anyone have a contact email or phone number for Fergal o Connor?

The Dolmen archers double FITA18 shoot is on Sunday, Any IAAA members who want to stay around for this please contact Pat lyons. His email address is lyonspat1ATeircomDOTnet.

Here's a list of good b&b's for anyone staying Friday or Saturday night

    Wren B&B 059 9182767
    Borlum House 059 9141747
    Barrowville Town House 059 9143324
Red setter guest house 059 9142837

Sounds good Span. I'm wondering if it might be an idea to swap Maynooth and Carlow though (if its possible). Maynooth have to get a train or bus into Dublin and then get the 7.15 bus to Carlow. I wouldn't imagine there's a lot of buses or trains that go into Dublin from Maynooth for 7.00 on a Saturday morning.

It'll probably be the tuesday before the shoot that I'll have full details of who out of DIT is definitely going. Is that notice enough?

    yeah that's grand Trig.

I'll swap Carlow with Maynooth. It'll probably suit better for me to shoot in the first group anyway.

Ya, there would be no possible way for Maynooth to get to Carlow for 10 without a car, 12 should be fine though, see ye there.

Not necessarily so, people just dont want to be the one to screw everything up and get abused on here for half an eternity.

true true..i'm sure that there are people who hold grudges.I like to think i don't..even though you insulted my sandwichs.Be lucky i didn't demand them back

Hang on a minute. i never insulted the sandwiches, i merely passed a remark that they were better last year. This was in no way an insult to this year's sandwiches, because they had an awful lot to live up to. Plus, if you had wanted them back you would have had to go down my throat yourself and get them, and i cant see you lowering yourself to that, after all you dont know where i've been..... I dont even know where I've been.

I'll have to consider this archery thing again... It's been months since I've shot. February 5th is it that this is on? Not sure if I'd get enough shooting done in a week to eb able to compete. Maybe... *ponders*

    I shall consider it. :P

Believe the last time I shot was the last IV, so lack of practice is no excuse Podge.
Doubt I'll get any in before the IV either due to some... "issues" with practice in DCU... :(

Issues? Can't get to any or the arrow thing? The latter wouldn't effect our bookings so we should be able to train next week when the exams are done and dusted.

Gavin did you email this info to each of the colleges? Cause some of them never look here, in particular, UCD, GMIT and NUIG.

yeah, I emailed all the colleges and I'll be ringing them later this week or early next week.

Thanks for that Dermot! UCD do occasionally have a look here.
Btw we haven't got any email yet - ucdarchery@dublin.ie

And for this intervarsity our archers will be eligible under Dermot's rules. Perhaps a set of rules could be posted or sent to every club participating. This should avoid any ambiguity. If there's no rules set down then how can anyone follow them or even be aware of them. Apparently it was assumed that we knew that some of our club members are not eligible to shoot in intervarsity competition.

Anyway if rules are not drawn up before this intervaristy can we confirm that all members registered in a full time course in UCD are eligible to shoot, with the exception of erasmus students, who are not registered in a full time course in UCD but are still eligible to shoot. Any other exceptions to this??

I did send the details to Evelyn Wickham's email address. That's the contact given on the UCD website.

I've sent it to the other one now though.

    Cheers, got the email now.

All full time students can shoot, erasmus students are full time students in your college, they aren't an exception, they might only be there for a term or two but they are normal students.

Mathias and Mike Hall can only shoot as guests at Carlow.

There are basically 2 rules about who can shoot in archery IV. The category of archers, which has been updated and displayed on the UCD website as its evolved. And the fact the its students only. Pretty much every intervarsity team in every sport in every college, in pretty much every country in the world is students only (with few exceptions). Also anyone that has even the slightest uncertainites about rules should contact someone about them.

OK folks, this might seem a bit random, but I need a response on it.. At the ISAA meeting in DCU (which i still cant find the minutes of), someone mentioned bringing a camcorder to Carlow. I said i would bring one as it takes the right tape format etc. One problem i did have is that i do not have a tripod for the bloody thing. So, to make a short story long and painful, have any of you got a standard screw-fixing tripod that you can GUARANTEE that you will bring on saturday?? Also, seeing as we will probably need some at-least-semi dramatic footage, can someone reassure me that my camcorder wont get shot, or at least that if it does it will be replaced???

I've got one baggins. Remind me when we're puttin the gear together and I'll bring it. You'll probably be taking my gear down anyway. Think Ewan's showing off his new Mini DV bad-boy too so there'll be plenty of footage :)

Speaking of intervarsities and photos, i've put up photos ucd took at the intervarsites on the ucd site.

All the photos in the 2004-2005 section are new. Oh and recommend you use boradband/college connection

I was trying to get room in B&B for Saturday night, but seems that single rooms are all booked up. Does anyone staying for Sunday shoot want to cooperate and get twin room?

Will I try bring my old phone so you can video one of DCU's patented ( lol ) mobile phone shoots? ;)

Podge you can stop scowling! :p

For some reason i dont think that would be a good idea. this footage is supposed to be going to RTÉ, so i dont think phone shooting is great. I will get it on one of the other tapes though, for fun.

A little infamy couldn't hurt...
If it's going on RTÉ I demand that my face be blurred, go get that camera drunk! :p

I'll be bringing my DV camcorder(those at the last Olympic training saw it), will have the tripod as well if someone wants to do some professional looking footage. I can do a bit but obviously I'll be shooting most of the time.

Could someone from UCD & DIT email me their entries for saturday. Names and categories please. There's some extra places so if any college wants to bring more than ten that's no problem.
    My email is DUNNEGAatITCARLOWdotIE

I've just emailed them to ya. Sorry for the delay.

Congrats to Gavin for running an excellent shoot. And to the winners UL, Dit came 2nd, this should keep the league interesting right to the end. Also NUIG came 3rd and Carlow 4th, massive performaces by both clubs, well done.

I left the scores for group 1 in a friends house in carlow, so the results won't be up till next week when she can bring them back up to maynooth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 246 ✭✭baggins

Well done to Gavin and co. Great shoot, went off without a hitch (except for certain people not being able to shoot). The league grows interesting.

Yeah, congrats to UL and nice one Gavin, Pat and Carlow IT Archery Club.

Come back Chris, all is forgiven!

One of the most enjoyable intervarsities in ages, well done to all involved. It made getting up at 6 in the morning (I didn't even know where WAS a 6 o'clock on a Sat morning!) all worthwhile.

Limbs sent back to Altservices, just hope the replacements dont take a month to arrive like the originals, or Im stuck shooting Colton's 66inch FromAs

you should be thankful for small mercies renegade, better shootin 66" FromAs than throwing the arrows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭Renegade_Archer

True, but sweet Jesus, those FromAs were not designed to be pulled back that far, the limbs make an *unholy* noise on release, like the screams of a thousand wretched souls trying to escape from hell, only shorter.

you ever hear muffin shootin the 40lb limbs on the pro 2? now there's noises that dont sound right
