Did anyone see this. at 8pm tonight sky news ireland left the sky news UK broadcast to carry the press conference held by the Gardai in relation to the inch strand body find. is this the first time that sky news Ireland have done this, maybe they are starting to ease up on their 5pm deadline.

they have broken away before, but it was for a big big story (which I can't recall). this is a pretty big story too, so it's not that unusual I suppose.

I noticed this too and was surprised. It seems that the newsroom is trying hard to compete with terrestrial newsrooms. SkyNews were the only station to carry a live relay. A small boon for them, no doubt.

when yerone was on the last ep of the panel there was some jibing which she took well but rebutted there jokes by saying rte /tv3 are merely entertainment channels which have news programs while skynews was all about 24 hr news....

but bskyb is an entertainment network.... and as I said before that the channel had quite blatently said themselves that the Irish news hour was simply to encourage more Irish business to buy advertising slots nothing more nothing less.

Well Sky News is well padded out with features and the same stuff over and over again, with things being described as breaking news or a newsflash, hours after they've happened.

As far as I know, Sky News in England didn't carry the story at all. When you consider how much Soham and some of the other similar stories got in Ireland, you'd think it would have at least got a mention. Maybe it did, but if it did I didn't see it. UTV carried it and possibly BBC too. It would have been a human interest story in Britain, but as is often the case, with the exception of Northern Ireland, not much that happens in Ireland gets reported outside of the country. The smoking ban being the really big one last year that did make it.

She really annoyed me on the Panel, basically spent almost her bit advertising Sky News. Sky News is becoming an entertainment channel. It's certainly becoming more tabloid-y and sensationalist.

It's even got the "soft-news" or "funny news" or whatever it's called at ten-to-the-hour. You know, the "ah look at the cute panda / tiger / lion cub"-type stories. I saw another one of those "look what this stupid American burgler was caught doing on camera" stories on Sky News again last week. Can't they save these for Sky One?
