Motorists travelling between Dublin and Wexford were left shaken this morning after what appeared to be a serious bus crash on the N11.

Bus Eireann has confirmed that the crash was a simulation and not a real accident, but the company had failed to inform the public about the matter beforehand.

At one stage, it sent a press release to the media claiming that 12 people had been injured in the accident.

The company has apologised for any "misspent time and inconvenience" that occurred as a result of the exercise, which was designed to test its emergency response plan.
