Answers on a post card please smile.gif

Three guys in a hotel call room service and order two large pizzas. The delivery boy brings them up with a bill for exactly $30.00. Each guy gives him a $10.00 bill, and he leaves. That's fact!
When he hands the $30.00 to the cashier, he is told a mistake was made. The bill was only $25.00, not $30.00.The cashier gives the delivery boy five $1.00 bills and tells him to take it back to the 3 guys who ordered the pizza. That's fact!
On the way back to their room, the delivery boy has a thought...these guys did not give him a tip.He figures that since there is no way to split $5.00 evenly three ways anyhow, he will keep two dollars for himself and give them back three dollars. OK!So far so good! He knocks on the door and one fellow answers. He explains about a mix up in the bill, andhands he guy the three dollars, then departs with his two-dollar tip in his pocket. Now the fun begins!
Remember $30-$25=$5 Right? $5-$3=$2 Right? So what's the problem? All is well, right? Not quite. Answer this:
Each of the three guys originally gave $10.00 each. They each got back $1.00 in change. That means they paid $9.00 each, which times three is $27.00. The delivery boy kept $2.00 for a tip. $27.00 plus $2.00 equals $29.00. Where the heck is the other dollar ??????

    They didn't pay £9 each.....!!

    They paid 8.33 * 3 = 25

    5/3 = 1.66 owed each.

    given 1 each->

    (1.66 * 3) - 1 = 2

    2 = yer mans tip

    No..........

Look they paid £25 all together and were owed £5. 5/3= £1.66.

Which means they paid £8.33 each!!

The reason you come up with extra pound is cos your rounding everthing down.

Shouldn't be using the auld ints for the calculation smile.gif

    They paid £30 BETWEEN them...........YES
    Thats £10 each ........Yes

    Then it was £25............YES
Thats how much each they SHOULD have paid eh??? How much, I'll tell ya (again smile.gif)
    Thats £8.33 each.........YES

So they are owed a £5?........YEs

Thats £1.66 each they are owed........YEs

Mutt gives em a pound each which means he keeps the two pounds.........YES = 0.66 * 3= £2

Yes they ended up paying £9.33 each, thats £28............so what don't you get.

Are you saying u have an alternative solution?

I don't get it? Your making up the $2.

    They paid $28 for the pizza... $25 + $3 = $28.

    $28 / 3 = $9.3333....etc.

As your left with a penny, someone made a penny.

Tis the age old problem wit 0.33333, tis infinite so will nevere evenly split, one always gets a penny more on paper

You are truly evil SB, playing with these poor ppls minds smile.gif. They pay $27 in total (bill of $25+tip of 2). They get $3 back ($30-$3) which leaves them paying $27 aswell. The tip is included in what they pay, not the money they got off. Screwing with ppls heads like that man. You're just cruel cool.gif

They did pay $9 each. Read it.
They first paid $10 then they each got back $1 so how can you say they each paid $8.33?

    Ok
The Pizza should have cost $25 right.
    They Paid $30.
They got back $1 each cause the lad kept $2 for himself.
This means they paid $9 each totaling $27.
Now instead of adding $2 to the $27 and being short $1 you subtract the $2 getting the correct price for the pizza $25 smile.gif
