Getting a drummer for a band when you're only 15 :(

It's bloody hard, none of my friends play drums and I don't know anyone who plays drums. I put up an ad in a music center but no replies after like 3 months. The problem is we're young and don't wanna form a serious band, we just wanna have fun and play some songs. Our band consists of me on (lead) guitar, my friend on bass and a singer(also have a rhythm guitarist, but he is hard to deal with since he disagrees with what songs we (try to) play and when he tries to play songs he hasn't heard(that's pretty much and classic/alt rock) he messes up the timing).

Anyway we feel we aren't getting anywhere and we think a drummer would help us greatly for our timing etc.

But it's just so hard, not many people play drums and when you're our age you can't be travelling around all the time so the band members need to live pretty close together.

Lose the dead weight too. Who's going to want to get involved in that?

Classical musicians have to keep there timing without fecking having some duracell rabbit smacking 4beats in a bar four them all the time, and they even always play in 4/4 time, rhythm is a fundamental part of music, if all you need is a tool to allow him to keep time, send him on a date with a metronome, it's him who has to sort his ****, out not you guys. I presume that surely you have a stronger reason to get a drummer than to help your rhythm guitarist stay in time.

We can keep time all right in simple stuff and I know we could work on it, the real reason we need a drummer is because pretty much anything we want to play is relient on drums and it just sounds bad without them.

Yeah i expected as much. I mean i suspected that you weren't just getting a drummer so your rhythm guitarist could keep in time. You gave the impression at the beginning that otherwise you had few reasons to want a drummer. Won't exactly make any potential drummers reading this thread jump at the opportunity to try out. nevertheless, good luck.

Getting a drummer when you're 15? It seems these days the problem is getting a drummer at all.
Have to agree with My Name is Mud though, you're limiting your search quite a lot.

do yourself a favour yeah, you're all at a good age.. one of you start playing drums NOW!! trust me you'll be thanking me in 2 years time, otherwise you'll be setting yourself up for a lot of hassle!!! if one of you starts playing drums now, then by the time you're gigging in clubs etc you'll be flying along.. unlike the rest of us who are still looking!

    Our band contains:

A singer - could possibly learn drums but then who'd sing? I could, I'm about as good as him but I'd find it hard playing lead and singing. Perhaps the rhythm guitarist but he's not really in the band anymore....

Me - I've been playing guitar for 4 years and am by far the best guitarist in the band, we would have no lead guitarist if I played drums.

Bassist - hmm.... I think it'd be great if he played drums but he's really progressing well as a bassist now and we do need a good bassist.

Rhythm Guitarist - Even if he was still committed to the band he would never accept playing drums.

But I'll keep that idea in mind, find someone into our kind of music and tell 'em to get drum lessons :p

I'm not too bad at bass if you can convince your bassist to play drums. :)

Influences: Led zeppelin, the doors, mitch mitchell, Pink floyd, radiohead, rage against the machine. I like pretty much every kind of music and i'm lookin to gain experince while the rest of my band practice with their instruments.
