Hair grows outwards...

Hey, I'm 17 and I've been shaving my head / having my head shaved since I was about 8... going down from a 4 blade to one lower every couple of years until 2002 when I started shaving it raw blade. I love having a shaved head 'cos hair annoys me for the most part. I've Mach 3'ed it a couple of times and I like that but the back of my head / neck get all "bubbly" when I shave them too often.

Last summer I had a mohawk for most of the summer and by the end of the summer it looked pretty damn cool, about three quarter inch wide and 2 inches high but gelled into a long spike... 'twas great. Then school told me to feck off or shave it off and it was just less hassle to shave it. Anyway...

The main point of this post is whenever I shave my head (raw blade) it's great however whenever I don't shave it for a couple of weeks my hair just grows... well, outwards. If I left it unshaved for a couple of months I'd have a 2 inch afro! I have a pretty big head (I wear a 59cm / nearly 2 foot in circumferance beret in the RDF.) and I look completely silly with this great big afro on it. Is there any way to make my hair grow normally? Like, not straight outwards perpendicular to my head!

    Thanks!

Have you tried wax? No wonder your hair grows perpendicular if you have never kept it in one direction.

Mine gets like that for a while after shaving and only wearing a hat constantly or waxing to buggery makes it non-afro.

I've the same problem - no matter what length I grow my hair it still goes fuzzy and stands up on top and the sides. The only solution Ive had is to use hair gel the whole time - this is problem really bad for my hair but Ive no choice other than looking like a big microphone :D

It's the shape of your head that causes your hair to grow in a 'fro.

I have it too. Apart from constant brushing and liberal application of gel, there not much you can do. Even with the brushing and the gel, it'll be stupidly wavy.

Continue to shave it. I do . It rawks.
