I have a WD 80gb drive in an external hard drive enclosure, connected to a USB 2.0 port on my PC. Any other USB 2.0 devices connected to the PC using the same port have a very fast transfer rate, but when I connect the external drive, it crawls. Typically I'm getting about 1 gig every 6 minutes (or almost 5gb in a half hour).

Is this typical? Is there anyway I can speed it up? (PC settings, registry hacks, updated USB drivers?)

I thought it might have been caused by the drive being a dynamic disk, so I spent hours copying stuff off it last night and converting it to a basic disk. It didn't make a difference.

Any ideas, or do I just have to put up with it?
