1 Satellite dish : Multiple digital receivers

    Hi,
    I want to be able to view the input from my free to air astra 2 satellite on two tvs in separate rooms. I would also like to be able to change channels on both tvs. independently. Do I need a splitter and two different digital satellite tv receivers ? Any help appreciated.

    If your putting up a dish make sure your land Lord lets you as some are against putting up dishes on apartments.

    The satellite dish is already up on the apartment complex with feeds going into the living area and bedrooms of all the individual apartments. Therefore I assume I would need one fta digial box for each room if I want to switch channels on each box independently ?

    If it is a large appartment complex, then it's likely the receivers aren't connected directly to the dish but got through an SMATV distribution system, something like this:

    So if you want independent viewing in each room, not only do you need separate receivers, you would need to have a line brought from that box to your room, assuming there is spare capacity available.


    Alt. a DIY solution involves using an active splitter which will allow you to share the signal between 2 or more boxes, provided they are on the same polarity (H or V) and same band (hi or lo).

    If you are primarily interested in FTA stuff, then it means you will be able to watch BBC1 on one receiver and any of the other BBC Channels (2,3,4, N24) on another receiver using the above, as they share the same polarity (H) and band (Lo). However, you couldn't watch BBC1 and ITV3 simultaneously because they are on different polarities (H and V respectively).
