Anyone know the name of the OP to BSG? I'm trying to get a hold of it either through the net or as a last resort CD.

I don't know the name but, apparently, they're changing it for the US Sci-fi airing because it's too mournful. Terrible mistake - it suits the show perfectly!

They're revamping the entire opening credits-removing the shots of the mushroom clouds and vipers getting blown up, as well as a more optimistic track. As Ioxy said, their loss.

Just to add to what ixoy and Fenster have stated above, an interview with composer Richard Gibbs is available here which details the changes he's been forced to make while conceding control of the main title music to another composer! :(

Hope those suits really don't interfere with the rest of the creative process as they have done in this way...
Apparently no one had involved Bonnie Hammer (Sci-Fi head honcho) during this process - I don't know why. When she finally saw and heard the main title, word came down to me that she hated it. When I asked why I was told that it was "too sad"!! Sheesh! So I said, okay, what now? At this point the show was already airing in England with my last draft attached. Months went by. Word again filtered down to me that Sci-Fi wanted me to write a new main title, something more hopeful. Fine by me. I waited for what I was told would be a new picture edit to work with. A few weeks ago I got a call requesting stereo mixes of the music that had been written for the series up to that point. Some editor back east was monkeying with the opening and wanted to try mixing and matching background cues. When I protested this process my words fell on deaf ears. Last week I was given a new cut to write to and told again to copy the temp! This time the temp consisted of a piece of Bear's underscore going into my taiko drum piece from the main title. The visuals had only changed slightly - they had removed a cut of mushroom clouds and a shot of a pilot being blown out of his ship into space. Bear is an excellent composer, but the piece this faceless editor had cut in was not written to be a theme - it was purely background music for a scene in the show. I pointed out that we were going in the wrong direction and that all life was being sucked out of the opening. No avail. At that point I finally bailed out and Bear has picked up the ball.

Gibbs stuck me as a bit of a prat when I read that soundtrack a while back.

"I don't care if everyone loves the music. Its not what I wanted, so therefore its terrible."

That's pretty much the gist of his rant in the interview.

    That sucks!!!!!!
The opening title sequence as we have seen it is 5* excellent. The darker edge to the soundtrack for the opening title fits what the show is about ie, Yur home planet has jus been nuked and a few last survivors have scrambled into orbit with the last battlestar and are now on an exodus to find Earth.

    Hardly happy go lucky stuff.

Also anyone know if u can still get the 'Dark and moody' OST and as ive never seen the 03 miniseries thing (<<I presume this is one long episode or a feature length film?) can u pick it up in HMV? anyone seen this on sale over here?
