The 200 euro was going to be only half that till I broke up with the GF and Im been told that this amount is crazy, Id be better off getting a mortgage etc. Thing is Ive read recently to hold back on buying this year and next as a crash in the market is long overdue

Is anyone else paying so much?! Its a nice area, close to amenities, not too far from city centre etc.

yes you are mad, dont pay it, why would you? a mate of mine shares a house with the owner and his sister (both in their 30s) in ballaly (near dundrum) and he is paying about 350euro a month, which is bad enough.

as for the property market being due to crash, its been due to crash for the last 5/6 years and still no indication that the bubble will ever burst, people in ireland are just too greedy, everyone is out to rip you off.....EVERYONE!!!

That's not a lot - equivalent to about 850 pm. I pay 925 for a well furnished one bed, with a seperate kitchen, near Heuston station.

Yes, you could possibly buy a similar apartment for that amount, but:
    • Do you have an 8% deposit plus extra for fees?
    • Can you afford the ~€1500 pa maintenance fee?
    • Can you afford to furnish it?
    • Do you really want to own a hard-to-sell one-bed?

My plan is to keep renting until I can buy a house or apartment I want to live in for a long time. However, I do earn quite a bit and live with my other half. It might be difficult for a single person not earning so much to save and rent, especially as it's likely your socialising costs will go up when you leave your parents' house, rather than down as is the case when you move in with a partner.

Ive only seen the sticky poll on this board now, it would seem more people (9%) pay a thousand euros plus a month compared to 8% who pay 800 euros per month

The Irish property market is mental!

I suspect a few people have misread it and are including their total rent and not dividing by the number of people.

Can I ask does your other half pay some or are you paying the full amount?!
