Peats (yes I know) have this drive on their website for e79. Went in and bought one today and they charged me e65 :D.

It looks like the same drive as Aldi have on special from the 13th for e89.99 with the exception that the Peats drive is OEM, the Aldi one is not - so Peats only sell you the drive and the software - no other bits.

What "other bits" would you need? I'm on the lookout for a dvd burner, didnt know you could get for this cheap

I find www.svp.co.uk best for DVD burners, the standard shipping rate is €15, but if you buy a burner and some blank discs you can get very very good value.
Plus they stock some of the most respected burners out there.

Yes I believe so - TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B as Nero InfoTool reports.

You basically get the drive and an OEM version of Pinnacle Systems DVD burning software (in a bag - it is not boxed). What you don't get is a manual, IDE cable, drive to soundcard cables, screws or any blank media.

The only thing I needed was the media, so I also bought 25 4x DVD+Rs for e15 in Peats - I honestly don't know if this is good value or not as they are something I had never bought before. /edit: Looking at svp.co.uk I guess not, but you gotta start somewhere....

Yeah the prices seemed to just plummet overnight. I would recommend going to SVP as mentioned. Maplins is cheap if you don't like ordering online. But for €105 you get the NEC3500 and 100 blanks delivered from SVP, the NEC is highly recommended on many dvd forums, I spent a while researching before buying. The newer NEC3520 is there for €10 more. If just buying the drive it is cheaper with komplett. But I think if you are getting over 50 discs it is better to go with SVP. They also do amazingly cheap DJ boxes. The post stays 15.50 up to 20-25kg.

The "other bits" are the screws, ide cable, manual, software and box. SVP and komplett are "bare bones" units. If replacing a drive you dont need the stuff. Software is free from www.doom9.net

The NEC 3500 is indeed popular. It's cheap and has a decent array of features (bit setting etc)

But if you are after a drive for more critial applications (like backup) then many recommend the LG and Pioneer drives for their extreamly low error rates. The LG 's (barr one) do DVD-RAM aswell which is making a bit of a bizzare comeback.

That said the NEC is not to be sniffed at.

I just ordered the NEC3520 from Komplett.

75 including delivery - can't be bad. Looks like it's the fastest Dual Layer recorder out there at the moment - from a well-respected manufacturer. Bargain.

    Hi,

I was thinking of going for the NEC 3520A 16x DVD+/-R writer from www.svp.co.uk

Anyone know what leads I might need to hook it up to my Dell PC?

    Thanks
