After booting, the CPU usage shows 100% most of the time.
I ran adwear and removed any virus and spyware that was installed.
    It still happened
Shut down services 1 by 1
    still happening

    booted in safe mode.....
    Does not occur initially.
    but
I can make the graph shoot up to 100% when:
I drag a window around the screen fast.
I run a disk utility like 'search for disk errors' tool in windows
if i stop either of these the processor relaxes.

    It's a P4
    Running win2k pro sp 2

-i'm going to install windows on another partition on the same disk to see if it's a hardware / windows problem

    Any other 'unobvious' suggestions.....

    thanks

Yup, what he said..... start->run type "taskmgr" (without the quotes)

Click on the processes tab. Click on the CPU header to sort by cpu usage.

Lads, what exactly is CPU usage? When I run Football Manager 2005 my CPU usage is always at 100% but I still run other programs at the same time. Should I be doing this?

It doesn't really make a difference, but if the load on your CPU seems quite consistently high, you may want to try reducing the number of open apps. You could also try reduce the amount of applications running in the background, though this tends to be more beneficial when RAM is in short supply, not CPU time.

If you're not noticing any particular lag on you system when running FM2005, I wouldn't worry about it. Like bandwidth, most CPU time goes wasted anyway. FM2005 is a modern game, it's gonna be pretty heavy on your CPU. Unless you're running a new processor (in the last year) I wouldn't blink in surprise.

i think even the newest processors will churn over at 100% on football manager especially when calculating scores after games! always processor intensive those games
