I assume you are after downloading the latest drivers from ATI.com, and its after installing these that you are having the difficulty?

If you're installing from the disc that came with the card, the older driver may not be compliant with SP2 (assuming you have it).
Go d/l the driver from the ATi site and install it by clicking on the .exe. Switch off your AV first. Also if you have an older driver remove it first to make things go smoothly...

I probably should have made this more clear. I completely reinstalled windows xp, wiped everyting of my laptop. There are no previous versions of the driver on the laptop at the minute. Also there was no disc that had drivers when I got it.

Have you the latest SP installed?

I have SP2 installed. I tried to update the driver before and after I installed it and it didn't work.

Is there an on-board video card? Or is the ATI on-board?

I installed an Omega driver and it worked. Back to full res on my screen and not taking ages to scroll down pages. Thanks for the link Hobart. It was there that I got the info. Cheers!!
